“I just ordered a FLVW7523BW Frigidaire from Costco, we'll see how it goes! My old washer is a Whirlpool, got 14 years out of it. But can't seem to find any decent priced/reviewed Whirlpool's at Costco.”From thread: Washer (Frigidaire?) ↗
“I have a ten year old LG front load washer. Never needed a repair. I have three kids who are now teenagers. We have pets. The washer has been used a lot! But the dryer that I have found to be most reliable is a cheap whirlpool with the lint screen in the top. So that combo would cost you right at 1500.”From thread: Need a new washer and dryer, going blind reading horrible reviews ↗
“Repair guy here, if you can get speed queen. If not LG front load washer & dryer is ok. Whirlpool is decent. I don’t like the newer GE stuff that much”From thread: Need a new washer and dryer, going blind reading horrible reviews ↗
“My incredibly basic Whirlpool washer and Amana dryer are absolutely awesome. They’re basically the cheapest ones you can buy but they cost nothing to fix when things go wrong. I probably have like $25 into parts the couple times they’ve broken over the last decade. Mostly fuses and safety switches worn out.”From thread: What brand is actually worth it? Washer and dryer ↗
“Whirlpool is usually the safe, no-frills option. LG can be great but repairs can get pricey. GE is kind of hit or miss depending on the model. If you can, check how old it is and see it run before buying. That’ll tell you more than the brand name.”From thread: What brand is actually worth it? Washer and dryer ↗

“I have a very good bottom of the line Whirlpool with some of the modern conveniences such as efficient washing but, looks like the old school models. I think I paid about 450-600 about five six years ago - one minor warranty repair from a penny getting stuck. I used to like GE a number of years ago but, have not tried their stuff recently. We have some GE I think its called signature or something fancy at work that seem to work great.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“I guess the good news is that your washer broke down during the Christmas sales season! I get money is an issue. I think you might be better served by checking out a local used appliance store for a direct drive whirlpool or similar. If you need something new, would you be able to stretch to something like an LG front loader? I see models on sale at my local box stores for about $700. Subjectively I expect it would be a much better machine. If I was in your shoes, wanted something new, and cold swing it I would do that. I haven't had that particular GE, but I've been burnt lately on cheap, plastic-guts top loaders.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“I have a whirlpool front loader washer and drier, that I purchased in 2006, when I purchased my home. They’re the only original appliances I have left. They are still going strong. The drier had to have the heating element replaced a couple years ago but otherwise I haven’t had any problems.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“My parents had a Whirlpool last 25 years and they replaced with GE and have been generally unhappy with it. They said once this one dies, and they suspect it will soon, they’re going back to Whirlpool”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“Yes! And when it does break... pay what ever it costs to have it repaired. You can have this for your lifetime. We have a 2001 Whirlpool. I think the one in the picture is a 1972 model. If I had it I would sell it for $550 non negotiable. Lots of resellers I know would sell it for $1000+.”From thread: Maytag washer and dryer worth it to buy? ↗
“If you are buying new, go with Speed Queen's TC5 for the washer and the DC5 for the dryer. Speed Queen has been owned by Alliance Laundry Systems since 1998, sells their washers and dryers to independent appliance retailers, and best of all, makes ONLY washers and dryers. Speed Queen washers and dryers are designed to last 25 YEARS if used 8 hours every day. All other modern washers and dryers are designed to last only 3 to 6 years. If you can't afford that, then go with an older Whirlpool direct drive (made from the 1980s until 2010-11). Any Maytag made after 2006 is not really a Maytag, but a higher end Whirlpool. Older Non-HE Maytag washers and dryers made in Newton Iowa are a good vintage alternative to all other modern washers and dryers. DO NOT buy any household appliances made by Samsung. From 2010 to 2017, my parents bought a Samsung front load washer and matching dryer, which quit working in June of 2017. The washer was already on its last legs by then. I told my parents to buy Speed Queen and that is what they have. The dryer had some overheating problems, but the washer has worked flawlessly since they got it. Whatever you get, be sure to leave the washer open when not in use so bacteria doesn't grow inside, which lead to a bad odor. Replace the inlet hoses every 5 years especially if they're made of rubber”From thread: Buying first washer & dryer... Maytag or Whirlpool? ↗
“Whirlpool”From thread: Buying first washer & dryer... Maytag or Whirlpool? ↗
“Same company. I would say even the Amana is a good choice because you are likely not going to get any more years out of the more expensive Maytag. They just aren’t made to last like the older ones. So pay for the features you want and if you get 4-5years without problems you are winning. I like the whirlpool stuff don’t get me wrong.”From thread: Buying first washer & dryer... Maytag or Whirlpool? ↗
“I prefer the whirlpool versions of the front loaders as on the Maytags, the pump filter is not user accessible. This requires full disassembly of the unit just to get to the pump. The whirlpools have accessible filters. No disassembly required.”From thread: Am I making a mistake of buying Maytag Washer Dryer set? ↗
“If you’re looking for FL pair, I’d recommend the WFW4720R over the MHW5630 (and matching dryer). Whirlpool refresh from 2 years ago, a LOT of quality updates, new controls for washer and dryer, pump access on the washer, etc… guts are pretty similar between both.”From thread: Am I making a mistake of buying Maytag Washer Dryer set? ↗
“I had me a may tag before I had a world pool but I think that they work just the same thing as the may tag because both cleened the cloths just the same as the may tag does. so they both kleened reel good and I vote for the world pool and I vote for the may tag to.”From thread: Am I making a mistake of buying Maytag Washer Dryer set? ↗
“These are solid. Maytag/Whirlpool/GE. Stay away from HE washers and Samsung and LG brands.”From thread: Should I get these Maytag washer and dryer ↗
“So, while I have this model it is really too early for an full review. I am aware that Maytag has experienced a drop in quality and customer support when Whirlpool bought them, but I still consider them the flagship of Whirlpool, so that's something. Of the current models that are still running (my house and family's, all entry level, similar to this), oldest is 2008, then 2012, then this model and equivalent gas dryer. Only one I've had to service in all this time is the 2008 dryer, thermal fuse went out because my mother was not keeping an eye on the lint exhaust. Otherwise it is still running. Never had an issue with the washer. 2012 series (did not have the impeller on the washer, not a fan of that design but no issues washing) never had a problem and they are going strong 12 years later. Just bought the 2023 series, took a whole 30 seconds to figure out the cycles and how to start. Yes, seems like they are saving money on the thickness of metal on the door, yes I miss the really old models that had less options and much simpler controls, good luck finding that anywhere. No issues cleaning, no issues running, I take a massive grain of salt with any online reviews, people here seem to have their favorites and favorites to trash. Whatever motivation, I'm not buying it. For reference my original units when I bought this house were 1980's models, they made it to 2012 and were still working when I replaced them. The 2012 models still work, gave them to a family member. Previous house had 1970's versions, I never replaced those. All Maytags, my fridges are all Maytags, one is 14 years old with no issues, the other is 31 years old and finally starting to show its age (to be fair, that one was pre-whirlpool). So, while I have this model it is really too early for an accurate non-ancedontal review, but my track history with post 2006 (when Whirlpool bought Maytag) has been pretty good. Oh, I like how they are relatively easy to fix myself and parts are easy and cheap to get, also applies to GE, Whirlpool, name brand appliances. Cannot say that about your high end appliances or the TV's turned into appliances.”From thread: Maytag washer reviews? ↗
“I get nothing but complaints about top load Maytags immediately after the purchase!! From wash settings, wash not cleaning and issues all in the first year. I personally would buy a Whirlpool over a Maytag- but I would definitely consider LG top loaders.”From thread: Maytag washer reviews? ↗
“Pretty much I think, I want to say most are made off the same line, etc. I have had numerous of them over the years and so far lately Whirlpool is holding up. I had LG and it failed in a year. Anymore its a crap shoot lol.”From thread: Maytag washer reviews? ↗
“Hi do you know if your machine has an auto dose function? I just bought this machine and was spoiled my previous whirlpool duet which dispensed Laundry detergent as needed meaning I did not have to fill the dispenser every time I washed a load..”From thread: Electrolux Front Load Washers? ↗
“Appliance tech here. Electrolux have finicky conveyors for there soap dispensers I have replaced two conveyors within two months on two different models of Electrolux washers. They really don’t like hard water. They are also really picky about what kind of soap you use and require “clean washer” cycles to function properly. Also there control boards have been crapping out recently. Speed queens are the best they function great and are easy to repair if they do malfunction. LG is straight crap, they had a design flaw with there washer pumps and never acknowledged it, you will continue to have problems with any LG washer regardless if you replace the pump. Whirlpool GE are tied for the best bang for your buck. Overall Electrolux aren’t the worst but they aren’t in the running for the best either.”From thread: Electrolux Front Load Washers? ↗
“I bought a TR5003WN about 2.5 years ago, and it just had its first issue. The machine won’t start. The tech said there is a short on the board and now we are waiting 10 business days for the part to come in. I’m really disappointed honestly after spending $1200+. I’ve had whirlpool top load washers that have done better than this. We are a big family- from first call to the washer actually getting fixed- we are looking at an entire month without a washer. That is a huge inconvenience and not worth the big price tag. If I had to do it over again, I’d go with something different.”From thread: Is Speed Queen still a good choice? ↗
“I have never heard off front loaders requiring a seal replacement in 2 years? We have a whirlpool one thar didn't any service whatsoever for 10 years now (used 2-3 times a week).”From thread: Are Speed Queens actually good washer/dryers ↗

“In my 1996 whirlpool top loader, the rust around the dispenser mirrored rust in the actual line into the tub. Put bleach in, leaks straight out from under washer. Nonetheless, washer keeps going & I will keep it till it dies unrepairable. I got rid of Samsung & Bosch frontliaders to return to this old school gem and I love her very much”From thread: Thinking to buy Speed Queen Washer & Dryer? Think twice... ↗
“This is actually pretty sound advice. I have an 20+ year old Whirlpool dryer that looks like crap (scratches all over the top) but it still works great. Except the control dial goes backwards most of the time. But it works/dries and I can still get parts because they sold a bajillon of them. Next to it sits a Speed Queen TR7003BN we bought 2 years ago. When the matching Whirlpool washer to the dryer died many moons ago - we went through 3 HE top/side load no auger machines. Yeah they use less water and electricity - but they die after a few years and repairs will set you back the cost of a new machine. We got so pissed off at HE machines we bought a Roper washer recommended by our repair guy. They are essentially the old barebones Whirlpool washer (top load) with a 10 year warranty on the transmission. It lasted longer than 10 years. But - we moved to a location that doesn't sell Roper when we needed to replace it. So.....we wanted a top loader and don't care about efficiency....Speed Queen is about the only option and they are built like a tank. I see complaints about how it cleans from other owners but ours is great. DO NOT use the Eco setting and USE the pre-wash or soak options if you really want to dirty things get clean. CR trying to use a top loader like an HE washer makes NO sense - but they do it every time they evaluate Speed Queen. I do think you need to match which SQ washer fits your needs best. If you do manual labor the TR5/TR3 are probably the better option given how they clean. I work in an office - so making my clothes last is my priority. So far - I love how it cleans.”From thread: Thinking to buy Speed Queen Washer & Dryer? Think twice... ↗
“We had our Whirlpool Gold set for 20 years and ONLY sold them and bought new because our repairman, who'd always told us to hold on to them as long as possible because they were the old workhorses, suddently told us that it might be harder for him to find parts for the washer because the set was pretty aged. He strongly recommended a specific Amana (wondering about a kickback now). We went for another Whirlpool set. But our old dryer never had a problem except for replacing the heating element once. The washer was abused by "stuff" still in pockets - one screw was a really small one. But I truly wish we'd forced him to find the washer part, because I HATE the new W/D nowadays, no matter the brand. And my mother's set was well over 20 years old when they decided "it was time for a new set." She hated the new set as much as I hate our new set.”From thread: Thinking to buy Speed Queen Washer & Dryer? Think twice... ↗
“Purchased LG Washer and dryer on line from Home Depot. Was not told you could not return after 48 hours. Per LG, "Didn't you read the manual?" No because it was packed with the unit until my husband could install on the weekend (after 48 hours). Was so excited for a new washer and dryer. These products are inferior to my former set, the Whirlpool duet. When switching the door direction a screw snapped off on both sides of the dryer door. Dryer needs to run several cycles. Told by repairman that dryer needs to run several cycles because my laundry room does not direct vent to the outside, but vent needs to run through my kitchen attic. He suggested I sell the brand new unit as it won't work properly the way my laundry room is configured. We had NO problems with the former dryer. I wish we never made this purchase. Beware of LG and their catch 22 warranty provisions buried in the Users Manual.”From thread: Is LG a good choice for Washer & Dryer? ↗

“Does Speed Queen have a troll farm just for this thread? Had to hunt them down to see if anyone sells them and I find the lowest cost coming in at $1400 each, vs about $600 each for other brands. That's with a top load washer, not a fan of front load. For reference I just replaced a 30 year old Whirlpool set with a Maytag entry level (4.5cu ft washer and matching gas dryer). Got a Maytag set for my Mom 11 years ago which is working fine and my brother has a 15 year old set, although for that one I had to replace the dryer fuse last year, it was a major deal, $14 for a set of six, so now I'm ready for any of the others to act up. Youtube has a decent video of what to check when it acts up. I didn't bother to check the fuse first so I replaced the igniter, temp sensor and gas coil, $40 kit, so that's all brand new and I have the old ones as spares if another acts up. And for reference, Whirlpool and Maytag are the same company so parts are interchangeable and easily available on Amazon. You'd be surprised how easy it is to fix name branded appliances, stoves, washers, dryers, dishwashers. Fridges are hit or miss, and since not poisoning the family is kinda a priority I eventually just replace those. I did reseal a broken freon line and recharged my beer fridge, just to see if I could.”From thread: What’s the best washer dryer set to buy ↗
“Did you buy front load? We have had our Whirlpool front load washer and dryer for going on 14 years now and the dryer finally gave. “No one is paying me for my reviews here. I've worked on all of those brands listed and dealt with tech support and warranty departments. Miele would be my second choice after Speed Queen. Maytag or Whirlpool would be my 3rd. GE, Bosch, Samsung and LG I would take a set of washer and dryer for free or buy dirt cheap but wouldn't pay retail for. GE does make good refrigerators and Bosch would be my first choice for dishwashers.”From thread: What’s the best washer dryer set to buy ↗

“There is going to be a lot of debate on the best, but I can tell you the best "set" is not going to be a set. They will, most likely, be mismatched. The best dryer is the old-school Whirlpool 7.0 Cu Ft. with the lint trap on top and mechanical timer. Super reliable, and if it does break, so cheap to fix. These have been made for decades with little change. I had one from the 80s until a few years ago. I gave it away when I moved. I am sure it is still running.”From thread: What’s the best washer dryer set to buy ↗
“Whirlpool top loader can be had around $800. Avoid any phone-maker brands. Stick to knobs and switches. Find a scratch-and-dent place. Consider used/refurbished. People often move out and sell almost new sets for cheap.”From thread: Best Washer and Dryer on a Budget (and best place to purchase)? ↗
“Might be looking at a laundry center (washer and dryer all in one unit) Whirpool would be the best choice if going that route. Otherwise avoid front load washers due to additional maintenance vs top load washers. If you have older units I would recommend fixing them depending on what’s wrong. But I would need model numbers to make sure the parts are still available. Personal preference to avoid LG and Samsung but would highly recommend you getting a extension on the warranty since these appliances nowadays die sooner than later. Also check to see if your dryer and washer is 120v / gas / electric. Helps narrow down options.”From thread: Best Washer and Dryer on a Budget (and best place to purchase)? ↗

“^They just don't build ANYTHING like they used too anymore b/c manufacturers know they don't have to. My in laws had some old whirlpool set from the 90s and they just recently replaced it! CRAZY! I can accept this but my husband will need some coaxing lol 😂 All he sees is that I spent $2k on a set, I want it to last for 15 years, and I am happy if we can get at least 7 years out of it. I wash so many clothes with our family, 7 years would make it worth not having to go to a laundromat 4-6x a week.”From thread: What front load washer/dryer to buy in 2024? “Speed queen washer. Basic Whirlpool dryer. Gas dryer if you can .”From thread: Washer/Dryer Recommendations ↗
“Speed Queen, Bosch, Maytag Commercial, Whirlpool (Whirlpool more for the fact they're easy to fix and get parts more than reliability). Samsung is probably the worse, made in China, really flimsy construction to keep shipping down parts are hard to get, and expensive when you can find them. Asian brands (and GE is now one of them, part of Haier) have really poor parts availability, they're motto is to "replace" rather than fix.”From thread: What is the best reliable washer/dryer brand? ↗
“Honestly I’d skip Samsung for washers/dryers. Lots of tech but way too many reliability complaints and expensive repairs. GE is a bit better but Speed Queen is pretty much the gold standard for reliability and longevity (they’re built like tanks and last 15+ years). Downside is they’re more expensive and don’t have all the fancy features but you rarely hear about major breakdowns. If that’s out of budget, Whirlpool and Maytag are also solid choices. Easier to get parts and service, and they generally hold up well for 8-10 years if you stick to their basic models. Front loaders usually clean better and are gentler on clothes, but good top loaders like GE or Whirlpool are still a safe bet. This list has some decent options from other brands as well.”From thread: What is the best reliable washer/dryer brand? ↗
“Maybe the older ones. The one I bought WM5500 maybe takes 4 gallons of water to wash. Unless you use a ton of soap my clothes still smell and good luck getting grass stains out. Why is it that the unit allows up to 3 extra rinse cycles? Most likely to get the excess soap out that you need to use. The machine needs more water on the wash. This machine is being returned but got me so mad that I rebuilt my direct drive Whirlpool for $180. It'll run for another 20 years. I get the California sucks and manufacturers can't have two models but something has to give. I've tried both LG front and top and not impressed.”From thread: What is the best reliable washer/dryer brand? ↗
“Whirlpool,”From thread: What Brand Of Washer/Dryer Is Good ↗
“LG for the washer and a whirlpool dryer with the lint screen on the top panel is what I would recommend. Don't waste your money on the Speed Queen, they're not as good as they used to be, they're living off of their old reputation, they're not good anymore 🤷”From thread: What Brand Of Washer/Dryer Is Good ↗
“Just avoid Samsung. I’d look for a sale and/or try a scratch and dent store (Best Buy). I’ve been happy with the really basic whirlpool or even Amana which you can get dirt cheap. For a step up I’d say LG front loader (or even top loader). Don’t be afraid to mix and match.. a dryer just dries clothes. So if you want to splurge get a nice washing machine and the cheapest dryer they’ve got. Everyone here is gonna say speed queen and I doubt you’d be disappointed but it’s probably overkill. They’re loud and water hogs. If you’re ok with that go for it.. but don’t buy the matching dryer, it’s over $1000 and it won’t dry your clothes any better than a $400 amana.”From thread: What Brand Of Washer/Dryer Is Good ↗
“I just got rid of my LG after 2 years and replaced it with an Electrolux. (By the way, this was my second time buying an LG washer and dryer based on consumer reports and now I really question their legitimacy.) the first set I had, my clothes smelled terrible and musty. And it took like three dry cycles to dry anything. I just thought it was the house I was living in. So stupid me bought them again for my new house (because of consumer reports… they can’t be wrong, right?). Same musty smell. Same not clean clothes. Oh and my dryer almost caught on fire and everything smelled burned. And still took like 3 hours to dry anything. So I just replaced those with Electrolux. I only got them 2 weeks ago but clothes smell clean and good. And it dries in a normal amount of time. Cut my laundry time in a third. I’m still so pissed at myself that I ordered the LG twice. The appliance guy I talked to who recommended the Electrolux (or whirlpool) said speed queen was overpriced and overrated. Which tracks with the research I did on those.”From thread: What is the best Washer and Dryer now to consider for purchase? ↗
“I have a Whirlpool WH21014115 set that I'm pretty happy with. That model number may be the washer, might be the dryer, you can figure it out. It's a front loader, which I prefer. I'm not much of a fan of having to wait the 3 seconds for it to boot up but that's my only real complaint. No bells or whistles, it's doesn't connect to wifi, and that's how I like my appliances. I bought Whirlpool because I live in the US and don't want any headaches with replacement parts if I ever need them. I heard horror stories about getting parts for LG and other brands during Covid, and now with crazy tariffs, uh, well, you know.”From thread: What is the best Washer and Dryer now to consider for purchase? ↗
“Look at the Maytag 586. It's about as close as you're going to get to an old-school washer today without paying Speed Queen money. And it has a full 5-year parts and labor warranty The GE 485 It's a good option too if you want to be around the $600 mark. Dual action, 4.5 cubic foot drum, selectable water level Don't put much thought into the dryer they have a pretty basic job and that is to tumble clothes and blow hot air. Any Whirlpool family dryer that has the lint trap on top is where where I highly recommend going. Whirlpool has made that design for over 50 years, it's changed very little in that time. It's dependable reliable and easy to work on if needed.”From thread: What is the best Washer and Dryer now to consider for purchase? ↗

“Whirlpool has changed their designs a few times over in the last 25 years and they suck now, too. Their top loading VMW washers are pure garbage.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“newer GE washers look nice - great design but the mechanics are garbage. If you think these new GE will last 10 years then why doesn't GE back them up with a warranty ( one year warranty is laughable) ? They don't cause they are JUNK. If you do buy a newer GE product - make sure you buy the extended warranty ( parts and labor). You''re going to need it. I work on these machines, GE is as bad as VMW whirlpool washers. Nothing to replace - they either work and then they die to hit the salvage yard.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“So, this may be moot in your situation, but I present this: Spend an extra few hundred dollars now, buy a Speed Queen, use it for the next 15-20 years. Buy a GE or Whirlpool (Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Consul), and spend a couple hundred on service calls every other year for the 5 or 6 years it works. Buy a LG or Samsung for even cheaper, and put it on the curb in three years. That's a generalization, of course, but it's fairly accurate. GE, Kenmore, Maytag...twenty years ago these were premium American made brands. This is no longer the case.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“Well, those old timers worked forever. Back in the day, my mom's Maytag did laundry for seven people for 14 years and never failed. But remember nowadays one service call can really get you. And can you get parts? My 11 year-old whirlpool microwave broke down and I could not get parts for it, just saying. I could barely see it, but I believe the washer only has cold rinse? That surprises me, perhaps they're not as old as I think not sure that I like that you should be able to take the model number and find out when it was made.”From thread: Maytag washer and dryer worth it to buy? ↗
“I bought a Whirlpool washer new 2 or 3 years ago, not having a clue until it crapped out and I could not get it repaired or replaced (even the appliance store I bought another brand from told me they have the same problem - nobody returns phone messages or emails and the replacement parts appear unavailable if you could even get somebody on the phone from the facility opened in Michigan but owned by a company in CHINA. Complete waste of money and absolutely infuriating that a probably fixable issue could not be fixed due to no contact back from the phone number or email address in Michigan that seemed to me to be more like a front than anything else.”From thread: Buying first washer & dryer... But the new one, takes an agonizing plus one hour for a medium load, unbelievably noisy, can’t open lid to add that last item found on the floor, no instructions on settings in the manual. I am also stuck. Unfortunately I found Maytag is really not Maytag but cheaper Whirlpool.”From thread: Maytag washer reviews? ↗

“Rinsing performance is a weak point on those Maytags, besides not getting stains out, soap not fully rinsing is the second most complained issue. I can see why; the spray rinse is anemic at best, and the wash action is very weak as well. ironically LG has one of the better approval ratings for cleaning performance so far. I've only gotten a couple complaints by comparison to the multiple for the Maytag/Whirlpool models. Do you have hard water by chance? That seems to make machines of almost any brand struggle.”From thread: Maytag washer reviews? ↗
“Nonsense. Their direct drive FL platform is still objectively one of the best designs on the market, and the least likely to need a major repair in the first year - almost 3x less likely than WhirlPoop's cost-cut VMW trash-loaders in my experience. 😂”From thread: Maytag washer reviews? ↗

“We have whirlpool front loaders. For what it's worth, I have five kids, these machines see daily multi load usage. I assume it is going to shorten whatever life they have been blessed with. I have had to replace the rollers on the dryer when they started squealing. Also had to replace the fuse when the dryer lost heat. These were under warranty. “I just recently replaced a Maytag washer and a whirlpool dryer that were about 10 years old and finally given up… Shopping at my local big box home store I didn’t get much help with which washers and dryers are best as most of the sales people said “they don’t make them like they used to“ no matter what brand…They don’t carry speed queen and those are out of my price range as I’m a single person and don’t need a heavy duty expensive washer and dryer set… I ended up going with a basic LG set of top load washer (with agitator) and matching dryer… they were the only ones that had any hint of quality feel to them as far as the door/lid closing and general construction of the machine… The whirlpools I saw felt terribly cheap and flimsy, as well as the Amana and the GE models I looked at… I’ve had these about six months and they’ve been flawless so far and work very well so hopefully I can get a good few years… I’m not expecting them to last 20 years as I don’t think any of them do anymore… with energy star tax savings locally I spent just shy of $1000 for the set…”From thread: What’s the best washer dryer set to buy ↗

“I really like the Frigidaire top load washer (haven't tried the dryer, although they are all pretty much the same), and I've heard LG makes pretty good laundry machines too. Kenmore will probably be similar to the Frigidaire or LG, depending on what model you get. For front loaders specifically, I've heard good things about Electrolux. Everyone here always says to get Speed Queen, and yes, they are built well, but they are priced above what a lot of people are willing/able to pay. Ones to stay away from are Samsung, GE, and Whirlpool built brands including Maytag, Amana, Roper (those being exceptionally cheap and nasty).”From thread: What Brand Of Washer/Dryer Is Good ↗

“The Whirlpool Corporation used to be a great appliance company. They sold more washers and driers than any other American company, mostly due to sales of the Sears Kenmore brand. For decades and decades, As far as washing machines go, the Whirlpool and Kenmore brand were number 2, behind number 1, which was Maytag. This was based upon surveys of people being asked, what type of washer do you wish you owned along with customer satisfaction of the brand they did own. Then Maytag, after a ton of bad press and class action law suits over a front load washer they released without proper field testing, a CEO that prioritized buying up other appliance companies while not paying attention to the debt load the company was carrying on the books….filed for Bankruptcy. After much ado, the Whirlpool Corporation bought out the rights to the Maytag name and other companies that has been previously acquired by Maytag. Today, the Maytag name still sells appliances because of the prestige that company once carried. Under the skirt, behind the paint, when you buy a Maytag product, you are buying a Whirlpool engineered and designed product. The problem is that for the past several (7-10 ) years, the reliability of Whirlpool products as a whole, including the brand names that fall under its corporate umbrella, have been spiraling downward. It can be said truthfully, that almost no appliance company is turning out goods that were as reliable as they were decade ago…….Whirlpool has taken the largest leap, from a company that was literally on top. If you want to buy a front load washer, in the United States, that is consistently rated as #1 in performance and reliability…..get an LG. At relatively the same price point as the Maytag, a comparable LG will have a larger capacity and more useful options. A much better tried and true recirculation system. Rinsing performance that exceeds WP/Maytag. The choices of up to 2-3 extra rinse cycles, versus 1. It’s just simply a better washer and super easy to work on, if something does go wrong. All LG’s have an easy to access drain pump filter. There are people responding to this message talking about Speed Queen. Most are referring to their top loader. A very pricy machine, with an enviable reliability record. It’s an average to good washer as far as performance goes. The Maytag front loader you just bought will perform better than the SQ top loader. Besides that, you are shopping for a front loader. SQ does make a ridiculously expensive front loader. Again, very robust, very reliable. However, for what you pay, you get an average performing wash machine, small capacity and the machine doesn’t even have an onboard heater available. The time for a few minutes of buyers remorse, is now…..before they are delivered. I’ve had so many bad experiences with both Maytag and Whirlpool in the last several years…..mostly because everyone calls me to diagnose their laundry machinery problems. …..buyer beware. If for some reason you don’t want or like something about the models LG offers……I’d go for an Electrolux over the Maytag. I have owned multiple LG front loaders over the past 22 years. I move around a lot and have sold the previous washers with the homes I’ve sold. I keep going back because they are excellent. My current machine is 5 years old. I would say choose ELUX over Maytag because I pay attention to these posts. You rarely hear a peep out of ELUX owners. If you have any questions…..ask me, here or through DM’s.”From thread: Am I making a mistake of buying Maytag Washer Dryer set? ↗
“We have the Maytag pair from the mid 1990’s -dryer is a Neptune model. Both machines are flawless after 25 + years (I replaced the band around the dryer drum about a year ago, used a screwdriver and cost $14. That was it though. Never a service call or any issue. Don’t understand how the reputation can have fallen so much but I have read that they have outsourced production of the dryers to L.G. since Whirlpool bought the brand. We bought Maytag because of the reputation (the lonely and bored repairman) and have been Very satisfied. It is rather odd watching much newer models with their fancy digital controls get put out for garbage on the sidewalk after only a few years of use.”From thread: Maytag washer reviews? ↗

“I have a 10 year old stack at a rental property and my personal units are 5 years old and I've never had any issues with either of them. Neither have twindos, I'm very picky about detergent and prefer to use powder most of the time, so that was not a needed feature. I'd never want to use a different machine. They are just top notch for fabric care as the programming is really specified. Sheets and dress shirts are always bright white, you can rewaterproof outerwear and tents, I haven't sent out dry-cleaning in 5 years, all handwash only items are run through the machine. We are also a paper free kitchen, so being able to have a true hot wash @170f means all the grease and stains come out of the napkins and rags. The dryers are great as they are gentler on clothes, so clothes last longer. Whether you should buy one vs a whirlpool is really a question about features. Miele is a laundry computer with a ton of value add, however only you can answer as to what your needs are. Regardless you should get a heat pump dryer to save money on your heating and cooling bills. Vented dryers just blow money outside.”From thread: Miele washer and dryer ↗
“Personally after using my first GE washing machine and after owning nothing but whirlpool before, I can say I’d take a hotpoint over an Amana any day. “It is unreal how low quality these products are now. They are expensive, large, hard to move, and in the case of a refrigerator or freezer will destroy hundreds of dollars worth of food when they break down. I perceive that companies have stopped spending enough on quality control. So they incorporate components that break well before the expected lifespan of the same product with all high quality components. And as a consumer it's just a gamble on buying one. I'm not sure what else to do besides play "new appliance roulette" and then if you have one that lasts more than a few years do everything possible to keep it running. I'm willing and able to make extensive and complex repairs. But sometimes diagnosis is extremely difficult. And often parts (like electronics control boards) are a substantial portion of a new appliance. So it's very hard to justify parts replacement if I'm not 100% sure what part is at fault. In terms of washers the internet/consumer reports consensus is LG is the most reliable normal consumer brand. Speed queen is supposedly even better. I recently got a whirlpool front loader when my old washer died. I chose whirlpool because a local repairman recommended it. I'll see how that goes.”From thread: What front load washer/dryer to buy in 2024? Are all brands just terrible? ↗
