About YayOrNey

YayOrNey exists because the best product advice on the internet isn't in listicles. It's buried in Reddit threads, written by people who bought the thing, used it for a year, and came back to say whether it was worth it.

We read those threads so you don't have to. For each category, we search the subreddits where owners gather, collect comments that describe real experience with a product, and link every one back to its original thread so you can check our work.

Each comment is tagged as positive, negative or neutral. A product's score is simply its share of positive comments among all positive and negative ones, shown out of 10. Neutral comments are displayed but don't move the score. General comments about a brand, like how its customer service treated someone, count toward every product from that brand (or, when they're about one kind of product, every product of that kind from the brand). When we rank products and brands, we also weigh how many people commented, so a perfect score from a single comment doesn't outrank a near-perfect score from dozens. Scores are never set by hand. They are recalculated from the comments every time a page updates.

The "to avoid" picks are products that come up often but draw consistent complaints: breakdowns, poor support, or features that don't live up to the marketing.

We are not affiliated with Reddit, Inc., and no brand can pay to change a score.
