What Reddit says about Shark
Redditors tend to see Shark as a reasonable budget-friendly option, but not usually the first choice for advanced robot vacuum technology. Its strengths are affordability and solid basic cleaning, while its weaknesses are software consistency, navigation, and model-dependent reliability. Roborock, Dreame, and Eufy are frequently suggested as alternatives for buyers who want more advanced features and a smoother automated cleaning experience. Shark can still be worthwhile when heavily discounted, especially for simpler cleaning needs, but checking reviews for the specific model is important

“We have the Shark and have zero complaints. Best $500 we’ve spent on a robot vacuum/mop. Does everything as stated. My brother has an ureka that’s $200 that also vacuums/mops and also does an amazing job.”From thread: Best Robot Vacuum/Mop for under $500 Comparison ↗
“I bought a Shark Matrix robot vacuum, the one without the mopping function. I had a terrible dog hair problem, and the vacuum solved it. In fact, it worked so well that I bought another for upstairs. I also bought my son one for his house. It's self-emptying and has a setting to go dump itself after a half hour has passed, then go back to work. I bought it from Costco here in the US and paid $300 with a manufacturer's rebate. It's now back to $400.”From thread: Best budget robot vacuum vs best robot vacuum overall? ↗
“Ditto this. Shark IQ self-empty with XL dustbin. Their self cleaning roll works for my hair, and nothin else ever has. Just clean it off the end of the axle, about as often as emptying the big bin.”From thread: Is there a robot vacuum that doesn't make cleaning out long hair from the brushes/bristles a pain? ↗
“I’m a long-haired person with a Shark robot vacuum with the self-cleaning roll. There are many here who are dissatisfied with this robot vacuum, but I am super happy with it. Occasionally hair does accumulate on the axel of the roll, so I clean that out maybe once every six months. Until other vacuum manufacturers can do better than Shark’s self-cleaning brush roll, I haven’t considered other vacuum cleaner brands.”From thread: Is there a robot vacuum that doesn't make cleaning out long hair from the brushes/bristles a pain? ↗
“I have the shark AI whatever silicone fin thing and it still looks brand new after cleaning all of my hairballs every day”From thread: Is there a robot vacuum that doesn't make cleaning out long hair from the brushes/bristles a pain? ↗
“Ditto, 3 girls and a beard here and we’re happy with our two. This is coming from someone who used to rubber rake the carpet before vacuuming.”From thread: Is there a robot vacuum that doesn't make cleaning out long hair from the brushes/bristles a pain? ↗
“I have a shark matrix and it does an amazingly good job with the hairs! It has sharp metal spikes inside the roller area that cut the hairs as it spins. Almost a year with it and I have yet to untangle hairs out of the roller. My previous roomba was constantly tangled and stopping because of a stuck roller.”From thread: Is there a robot vacuum that doesn't make cleaning out long hair from the brushes/bristles a pain? ↗
“While it’s not top of the line for smart features and performance, I have 3 Shark robots for 1 reason. They’re the only one on the market with bagless auto empty. That is a dealbreaker must have to me. I will not do proprietary bags, that’s just yet another subscription. Also, if you time it right, you can get insane offers with Capital One Shopping. I got 60% back on our 2nd around Cyber Monday and used that to more than cover getting our 3rd on an eBay refurb.”From thread: Looking for a new robot vacuum, what's the best? ↗
“After some research and balancing feature vs cost, we ended up purchasing the Shark Matrix Plus 2 in 1 with a bagless self emptying bin. It's a budget robo vac but had some really nice features. We don't have carpet, so that wasn't a feature we were looking for. However, they do state it works on low pile carpet. It has 3 power settings. We only use it in eco. Can't speak to the effectiveness of the more powerful options. But, even on eco, it picks up everything. We have a Golden Retriever that sheds like no ones business and tracks in a lot of dirt. It also mops. You have to insert the mop pad and fill the water reservoir manually, but that's not an issue as we do that once a week. Some times 2x. My favorite feature is how well it vacuums corners. As it moves along the wall, there's a stream of air that pushes debris towards the rollers. It's really good at avoiding objects and moves in straight lines instead of random. It has a HEPA filter in the bin and holds quite a bit.”From thread: Best Robot Vacuum and Mop to Buy with Good Suction? ↗
“Shark has great options”From thread: Best Robot Vacuum cleaner for under £700 in UK, research is killing me! ↗
“Stay away from these no-name brands. Stick with Roborock, Dreame, Eufy, Irobot, and Shark. Roborock Q5 is a great deal at the moment. The no-name brands are almost always worse in functionality, much harder to get spare brushes and filters for, impossible to get other parts for etc.”From thread: Hi everyone, I wanted to get my sister a robot vacuum. Amazon has a lot of sales going on. Wondering if anyone has favorite brands OR brands to stay away from? ↗
“Honestly i think it's how people maintain their robovacs alot people i know said theirs last for like six months to a year and I've realized that most people don't even read the instruction manuals on how to properly clean and maintain it. Most of the time it's hair getting caught in the roller brush because my shark has a roller brush you can take out and remove the hairs that get stuck so far ive had no issues what so ever but I also don't have kids or pets so that might a factor to on why mines last pretty long”From thread: What is the most reliable robot vacuum? ↗
“They’re my second fave. Not as good at obstacle avoidance than Narwal — tho they have some newer models that may be rebrands of Narwal — that seem to have better options than the ones I’ve used.”From thread: What’s the best robot vacuum that’s worth buying right now? ↗
“Shark powerdetect vacuum only model. But roomba has a pet poop guarantee on some models so might be looking into that too!”From thread: Dog parents! What vacuum-only robot works GREAT for pet hair? ↗
“I don’t have experience with eufy robot vacuums but they make top notch stuff. I have 3 of their cameras and they work amazing. I definitely plan on getting more. I currently have the shark IQ 2-1 with detachable mop. I love it so far, I have 2 cats who she’d like crazy and I’m always amazed by how much hair that thing picks up Less than 100 on walmart right now: https://www.walmart.com/ip/2844894680?sid=90d0a03b-e478-43c8-9d2d-01ae53f1ebab”From thread: Dog parents! “I got a Shark IQ on sale a couple of years ago for exactly this purpose. I paid around $150, so it wasn't the top of the line then or now. I've been very happy with it and it picks up dog hair really well.”From thread: Dog parents! What vacuum-only robot works GREAT for pet hair? ↗
“I don't have dogs but I have 3 indoor cats. I use a Shark robot. It works great. In my opinion, a vacuum robot is useful only if it's self-emptying. In Italy I paid around 200 euros for mine, but I got it with a sale. 600$ I believe will be more than enough.”From thread: Dog parents! What vacuum-only robot works GREAT for pet hair? ↗
“We have a Shark vacuum and 5 cats. It runs every day and works very well. We make sure to run it every day so the cat hair isn’t as bad.”From thread: Dog parents! What vacuum-only robot works GREAT for pet hair? ↗
“I am incredibly easy to please but I just graduated from a dirt cheap robot I couldn’t tell you the name of to a Shark my MIL gave us for $100. It’s a little quirky but I’m in awe of its self emptying function. 😂”From thread: Robot Vacuums People Actually Like ↗
“Shark Matrix RV2310. 2 years. Small apartment, but it mostly does the job. The battery wore out recently, but that seems normal with regular use. The new battery was $25. I vacuum every other day.”From thread: Robot Vacuums People Actually Like ↗
“We just bought this and I wish we had gotten it sooner… before we had to sweep multi times a day due to pets. Shark Robot Vacuum & Mop Combo, PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro, Self-Emptying, Self-Refill with Self-Clean Pad Wash & Dry, 60-Day Capacity, 30-Day Refill Tank, RV2820ZE (Renewed)”From thread: Which robot vacuum works the best? “I’m more into manual stick models now since I like control. The Shark Cordless Stick Vacuum transitions between rugs and hardwood without switching heads, which saves a ton of time when I’m testing out floor layouts.”From thread: Best Robotic vacuum and mop ↗
“Robot vacs are convenient, but I keep a cordless stick around for quick control. I use the Shark PowerDetect Cordless Stick Vacuum because it empties itself at the dock, so there’s almost no upkeep. It’s not a mop, but it handles floors and rugs fast without needing to babysit it.”From thread: Best Robotic vacuum and mop ↗

“This is why I opted for a vacuum only model, but they seem to be harder and harder to find. Mine is a vacuum only Shark and even though the maintenance is low, it's ruined by the software so I wouldn't recommend the brand.”From thread: What is the most maintenance-free robot vacuum in 2026? because i’m tired of owning another chore ↗
“Ugh. Ours does REALLY well at binding itself up with wife & daughter's straight hair. Same with edge-brush and the small pivoting roller. Got here looking for something better.edit: ours is a "Matrix plus" UR2360S (Costco.com 9/2024)”From thread: Is there a robot vacuum that doesn't make cleaning out long hair from the brushes/bristles a pain? ↗

“I've been using Roomba's for a while. I have 3 from super dumb to self-emptying... They've been pretty reliable and do a decent job... but are pricier. This year I bought a black friday Shark deal... self emptying... In just a few times of use I find that Shark is behind on the game. This makes me leery to try other manufacturers...”From thread: Hi everyone, I wanted to get my sister a robot vacuum. Amazon has a lot of sales going on. “Both Roomba and Shark are years behind the market leaders in almost every single aspect. Try looking at Roborock, Dreame or Eufy.”From thread: Hi everyone, I wanted to get my sister a robot vacuum. “The Dreame subreddit is full of posts that talk about how bad the robots are at mapping and navigating and how terrible their support is. All of those posts have comments from people talking about how wonderful their robots are. I've written various posts and comments about the issues with my flagship Dreame x50 Ultra and my issues are completely dismissed as being my fault entirely. So while on one hand the physical hardware seems great their software is absolute ass and I can't recommend a Dreame even if it checks all your boxes hardware wise. I will also not recommend a Shark because even though my stupid shark robots have been 100% reliable their support makes you actually call them, no email or chat. They also don't support matter, have any sort of API, and like to break shit without warning and are reluctant to acknowledge what they broke if at all.”From thread: What’s the best robot vacuum that’s worth buying right now? ↗
“I was hyped for that when I saw your comment but I noticed it doesn’t have the dual brush rolls. For pet hair or just hair in general I think I might look into one of their models that has that feature. Every week I’m cleaning hair out of my current shark vacuum brush roller. We have two dogs that shed a lot.”From thread: What’s the best robot vacuum that’s worth buying right now? ↗
“It’s not the one I currently have but I have had the QREVO model that they sell at Costco and it performed very well. I do think the spinning mop pads are superior all around (reliability, serviceability) to the newer roller styles. Stay away from iRobot / Shark”From thread: Just tell me which one to get. ↗
“I am in the same boat. I've stood by Shark, but after three units in as many years, third strike you're out. I see the concesous here is Dreame or Roborock so I'm on day two of researching here while utilizing ChatGPT and honestly, I have no idea what I want based on so many options out there, but I don't want to break the bank on this either. I need something reliable as we live in the AZ desert with 1800 sqft of LVP/tile, four humans, two dogs (pitty and yorkiepoo with their dog door), a long haired hamster who gets bedding all over the house.”From thread: Best Robotic vacuum and mop ↗

“We have 6 fur animals and 3 long-hair people here. My Narwal Z Ultra has been running daily for 11 days now. This morning it ran over some paper business cards and threw a "roller tangled error" because two cards got stuck in the roller. It managed to take itself to the base to dry and decontaminate the mop pads. Why am I recommending this unit? Because when I opened the roller to remove the business cards, it was completely devoid of any tangles. No fur, no hair, no cords. The roller was clean, and just the business cards were stuck in there. I have: Two Roomba i7+ units (also great with hair, but not as good as the Z, since long hair makes its way to the axel on the Roombas, where as the Z sucks it into the chamber) The OG Freo with anti-tangle roller (not as good as the Roombas at vacuuming or tangle-free operation) I also have a shark regular vacuum, and was considering their robovac before I got the Z but the Z is fantastic at both carpet and mopping. If you don't need a mop, the Roomba J7+ or S9 would be good. Not sure about newer ones. The roborocks are also very good. Check out the VacuumWars YouTube channel if you want to make comparisons”From thread: Best robot vacuum for long hair? ↗
