What Reddit says about Roborock

Redditors tend to favor Roborock for its smart navigation, feature-rich app, and convenient vacuum-and-mop systems, but long-term reliability and after-sales support remain significant concerns. It is often recommended over older Roomba models for technology and convenience, although buyers are advised to check warranty coverage, local repair options, and model-specific reviews before purchasing.

“The Roborock Curv, Dreame vacuums with the tri cut brush as the other person mentioned, and Narwarl Freo Z Ultra are probably the ones you want. Curv and Freo Z have brushes that are designed to pick up the hair and then the hair travels along the brush until it falls of the brush and is vacuumed up. The Dreame one cuts the brush, however the brush design results in weaker debris pick up.”

“From the photo that doesn't look like what I'd consider high-pile carpet. It looks more like a dense, low-pile carpet, kind of like the carpet you'd see in classrooms or offices. I went through a ton of robot vacuum comparisons using this spreadsheet I found on the BIFL subreddit before buying mine, and one thing I learned is that dense low-pile carpet is generally much easier for robot vacuums than true plush or shag carpet. I ended up with a Roborock and have been happy with it on a mix of hard floors and rugs. With the amount of cat hair you're describing, I'd focus on good pet hair performance and navigation first, then worry about the mopping features second.”

“Great post. I had most of the same criteria. For what it’s worth, I ultimately decided to go with the MOVA p10 pro ultra. Factors that tipped me into making that decision: 3 year warranty (plus I opted for additional 3 years in the order on Amazon; 6 years total gives me more courage to try Mova as a “new” brand, that plus it looks to be the same manufacturing as Dreame ( a well reviewed brand) higher pa (I realize airflow is a more important metric) strong reviews on vacuum wars and Just a Dad. (rTings.com was not as enthusiastic, but decent) I plan to really put it through the paces for the next 2 months, taking advantage of Amazon’s extended holiday return window. Good luck with your final decision. I have had Roborocks and think you will be pleased if you stay with the Qrevo Pro”

“Love my roborock saros 10r. I have 5 dogs and kids, cleans extremely well, almost never gets stuck. I wipe the robot down about once a month, swap out the mop pads every week, and rinse the mop washer plate about every other week or when I notice it getting dirtier than usual. Would love to get one with the drainage system to get everything truly automated.”

“I have the Saros 10R and it’s incredibly low maintenance. The only thing I do regularly (every week or two) is take care of the dirty/clean water. Every once in a while I dust the sensors clean. And even more rarely I rinse off the tray where it docks (this is very easy to clean) and the filter. Occasionally I wash or replace the mop pads (I throw them in the laundry with my towels sometimes) but I went months without doing that even. I’ve had it for ~8 months and have not once had to detangle or do anything with the brushes. I do have a cat. I run full vac then mop 2-3 times a week. The Roborock app is good at tracking when you need to do any maintenance (like it suggests wiping sensors after 30 hours of runtime and will alert you when you hit 30 hours).”

“My rorborock edge rollers never get hair stuck (the duo divide brush actually works) - My maintenance is - every sunday I take 5-10 min and empty/fill the two water containers and rinse off the filter in the sink and wipe off the sensors on the bot. Then every 2-3 months I replace the filter bag and throw the mop pads in washing machine. (Yeah I should probably do that more often, they just don't seem to get that dirty, the dock cleans em pretty well)”

“I got a Roborock S5 exactly four years ago, for $360. Speaking of privacy, I picked this one because it could be converted to open source control software so it's not even sending that LIDAR map to anyone. Now, many more vacuums can use this software. My vacuum doesn't have a challenging life, and it still works just like new after four years.”

“I've had my Roborock S6 for 3.5 years and it's been great. It runs 3 days a week over a fully carpeted apartment to help pick up the hair of our two long-hair cats. You can get replacement parts easy which is nice because the rollers and filters wear out over time. Looking online it appears that the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Roborock S8 Plus is the one that is generally recommended for hardwood floors. For dogs I'd probably recommend getting one with the self-emptying cannister, even though they're more expensive. As a side note, if you want to get a robot mop, don't use the combination vacuum/mop machines. Just get one that is exclusively a robot mop. Because the combo machines will never be quite as good as one that has only one dedicated function.”

“We have a Flat Coated Retriever - for those who don't know, that's a big fella who sheds a tonne of long (4 inch plus) fur (as the old saying goes - retrievers shed twice a year - once in the summer for 6 months and once in the winter for 6 months). For a long time I thought a robo-vac could never handle it. Finally decided to try one (a Roborock Q Revo) about a year ago. I was wrong, it's great. The main trick to it is never to let the fur buildup to the point that it gets clogged. I run ours 2 or 3 times a day through the whole downstairs (almost all hard floor), & only need to do a quick de-tangle of the brush once or twice a week. The one caveat is that it isn't as effective on carpet, but if you're all hard floor you should be grand. The mopping is good too. Put it this way - if it broke tomorrow I'd have no hesitation buying another one (or whatever the newer version is).”

“We have the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra and love it. The phone app is second to none in my opinion, having used Shark, iRobot and Neato in the past. We've had it for 2-3 years now and no issues at all other than regular cleaning & maintenance. Ours is the full auto-empty/wash/mop base, but you can get them without the mop cleaning part for a bit cheaper. Highly recommend the mopping one though if you have hard floors. Just set that thing to vac & mop every other day and never worry about dirty floors again. Checkout "Vacuum wars" on YouTube, he has fantastic videos testing & comparing all the various robot vacuum models.”

I’ve had the S7 for 2 years, and the S4 I gave to my MIL after upgrading (hers still works perfectly). It’s a fantastic machine! “I wasn't going to comment but your question stuck in the back of my mind so I thought I might contribute. I have 7 robot vacuums in my busy household, of various brands, and another 7 Scooba floor-scrubbing robots that are a defunct iRobot product, and have no reason to contradict the advice here - Roborock and Eufy are both solid performers. I would only add two things. The first is that I haven't really touched iRobot except for the second-hand Scoobas but they do finally seem to be offering uniquely useful products atm. It's latest vacuum-only, for instance, compresses the waste in the dustbin to increase the time between empties. The second is that I've had good success splitting the money between a smart vacuum/mop that recognises cables, sets a rational course for cleaning etc, and an absolutely dumb AF one that hurtles around for hours until its battery runs out. The latter encourages the family not to leave crap all over the floor, vacuums for far longer than any cleaner would and thus picks up a lot more dust despite typically slightly weaker suction. These things have no map, no idea where it is and will either flee screaming from a pile of cables or try to hump it to death. You can set a schedule then delete the app. They're also good for quick cleanups. The smarter ones will go through a sort of Chinese tea ceremony of preparing their pads and achieving perfect positioning whereas the cheapo boys barrel into the room like a redneck riding a pig and just get the job done.”

“Hands down, Roborock in my opinion. I've had an S4 for about 6 years and that thing is still going strong and runs twice a day. Super low maintenance, replacement brushes/filters are dirt cheap and long lasting. Their out of the box app is pretty good, everything is easy to set up, you get notifications for maintenance, when it starts/stops, or if it gets stuck. Most of their stuff integrates well with Home Assistant too, except the newer Q series stuff but they're working on that. Obviously my S4 still needs to be emptied regularly, but their new vac mops have docking stations that take care of storing all that so you don't need to do as much. I've heard nothing but good things about their newer stuff and, like I said, my S4 has thousands of hours on it with no issue. And from what I've seen a good chunk of their competition offers the same features but at a higher price. Only real downside is data privacy. It's not state owned by China directly, but Xiaomi (which is) has a and they have a controlling investment interest in the company IIRC. There are projects out there for custom firmware, but they're a little sketchy and carry the risk of bricking. Probably gonna be buying their Saros 10 with the dock in the near future.”

“This question is really two main parts. You want a good vaccum. Vaccum Wars is a good starting point. Make sure to also watch some reviews on your specific model before buying. You also want something that's good with home assistant. I'd look up I can't speak for other brands, but my Roborock works great with home assistant. I wouldn't call it beginner friendly, but I have an automation for mine that when I'm away, it checks if a specific room has been cleaned. If not, it cleans that room, and increments a counter specific to that room up by one. Then it does the same for all the rooms in my house. Last peice of advice, everyone's budget is different, but I'd say having a dock and lidar have been essential upgrades for me. Dock means you don't need to empty it daily, and lidar makes it clean alot smarter.”

“Same. I wish I could do Valetudo, I would strongly prefer to keep everything local. That's a no go with three floors in the house, though. Can we get a fork that supports multiple floors? Even on its regular cloud service, it's been a massive upgrade over what I had before, and it integrates nicely with HA. My favorite automation so far: Cat uses the litter robot. After the litter robot flushes, wait a few minutes then send the Qrevo Slim out to vacuum up just the area around the litterbot to pick up any stray litter the kitties tracked out. So many cloud-attach devices seem to have connectivity problems or keep dropping off of HA, but not this Roborock. It alone seems as reliable as a local device. 9/10, would absolutely buy again.”

It has high enough suction that it keeps the dust and the hair from two cats (one long haired) under control. I love it. It autoempties the bin and cleans its mops after every clean. I’ve never had any issues with it dropping off the network, and the app works fine.”

Even then, their aftersale support can be mediocre-at best. All the brands have issues too, mysteriously shattering front wheels, consistently leaking bases.Overly cautious o.a. which leads to poor cleaning coverage.Set your budget, look for the features you need and value in your particular environment. And really-dont spend stupid money-todays flagships are not exactly wowing many users with their reliability. “I recently purchased the Roborock Q5 Max+, it has dual rollers (rubber), only vacuums no mop. It goes over low pile and medium pile rugs with ease and vacuums those too. My dog has a long hair double coat as a retriever, sheds almost constantly. I got it on a sale for 300$...so hopefully you find a Christmas sale soon. I vacuum daily and it picks up both my extra long hair, dog's long hair, and insane amounts of invisible dust from my carpet, tile and floors. The app is easy for me to use. Here's a link to my initial post about it Q5 Max+ I was truly skeptical about these things, but it truly picks up everything.”

What's been a learning curve is the maintenance of the dock itself . Like change the dock water, refill water and recently the storage of the dust collection bag. They are all still five min total compared to the one hour I'll need to clean my living room and kitchen.”

“Got a Roborock Qrevo Curve Flow 2 (or some similarly long, unhelpful name) a few weeks ago and have been happy with it so far. Two dogs. Floor was absolutely disgusting to start. Mostly laminate with a few area rugs. It’s not great at getting the dog hair out of the rug, and I run it at booster vacuum, high water flow and 2x cleaning all the time or I can see the roller mop streaks. That could be more of an indicator of how dirty the floor was to start, but regardless, I want it to do as much cleaning as possible when it runs. Easy to use. App is straightforward. Haven’t had it long enough to comment on durability”

“I thought this video was really helpful too. One thing that stood out to me was the point about managing expectations. A robot vacuum is great for maintenance, but it's not a complete replacement for regular cleaning. I was actually narrowing down my options using a vacuum database I found on another sub, and after comparing various robot models, I ended up going with a Roborock. The video helped reinforce my decision to skip the mopping feature and just focus on getting a solid vacuum first.”

“Technology for robovacs are early stage and none of them can consistently do what marketing and paid reviewers say they do. Paying more than USD 700 for a robot vacuum is ridiculous. Best one was Roborock Q Revo Pro, balanced between performance and budget Brands pay influencers a really high fee and it’s resulted in a massive disconnect between what paid affiliates say vs real users. Calls out vacuum wars (and other paid reviewers) for ranking ecovacs x9 pro number 1 for so long. Calls out the brand and paid affiliates as a scam like practice. Most of the tech (roller mops etc) right now are gimmicky as they cause more human intervention and needs further reiteration. And they charge above 1k for it. People’s expectations are inflated due to reviews and marketing strategies, and most of the models can’t live up to it (without them having defects in the first place) These were the ones I retained (paraphrasing some of the stuff he said, of course)”

From what I’ve experienced, the mopping on the Saros 10R is pretty solid, the rotating pads and the extra pressure help with everyday grime, and the edge mop is nice for corners. We have pets and a toddler and the extra daily vac run made it feel so much more manageable keeping a 3k sqft home clean. Now in a new home and we need mop functionality too. I’m willing to drop $1k+ if it works. I’m checking out the roborock, eufy and mova…but honestly don’t know what to try. I get they aren’t perfect. Anything that actually helps is worth the money. The only places the S9 did better are related to overly-broad patents iRobot still holds (being able to detect when a dust bin is full so it goes and empties it, or detecting when the vacuum bag is full) mostly due to "first mover" advantages. “I love our Roborock. It works, the app works, their support works. Avoid the Shark models. Returned one that we never got to use because their support team had to manually push a firmware update and they were asking us to leave it on the dock for 3 days to give them time to push the firmware. 3 days later they informed me that weekends don't count and since they put in the ticket on a Friday, we'd have to wait 3 days from Monday. Their support is an absolute nightmare. At one point during the whole ordeal I was told I'd be contacted by a supervisor within four hours. Four hours later I contacted support again and argued about how time moves at the same speed even in different time zones, so it doesn't matter that they're on the east coast, I had still waited for four hours. We argued for an hour, at which point they admitted that even by their insane way of tracking time I should have been contacted. I returned the Shark and had a Roborock up and running before the Shark supervisor called.”

“My Roborock S70, the one with AI that detects obstructions and can separate or avoid them based on how it identifies them, finds my elderly dog's misplaced poop in the middle of the night every time there's an accident and distributes it throughout my house like it's a 2008 Roomba. This makes it completely useless until my dog finally passes away. Unfortunately, nothing dies in my house; they just haunt me until I'm gone. I contacted support about the problem, and all they wanted was pictures of the mess everywhere. As if I'm going to standby, leaving a contaminated home while waiting for Chinese tech support to get back to me.”

“The narwal freo z ultra and freo x ultra both have anti tangle brushes. In my 1+ months of using both of them, no hairs has ever got stuck in the brush or the axle. My wife has super long hair which always annoys me - gets stuck on the regular vacuums brush and the roborock s7 (axles, not on the rollers). But with the narwal, I never had to clean them once. Narwal does a pretty good job of vacuuming and mopping but the app isn't mature and the same goes for the robots themselves. They have some quirks - the mapping/ map updating kinda sucks sometimes and both the robots I had to re-map the house at least 2-3 times. Also, splitting rooms or modifications to the map also has some quirks that annoy me so much. I also had some concerns on privacy so I returned the freo z, still have the freo x, will use it for a bit and decide. The only thing holding me from returning the narwals was/is the anti tangle brush.”

He pretends like he can't dock, although he can dock just fine to empty the dust bin. Now that by itself is no biggie. I get it...things break. These are the two reasons I'll never buy another Roborock: The mechanical rolling wheel broke. Roborock wouldn't just let me buy another. They wanted $150 plus shipping to mail the whole robot in. The wheel is kept in place by TWO SCREWS. I ordered the part off eBay for $15 and replaced it myself. The stupid thing broadcasts its own 2.4 gHz wifi network constantly, even though it's joined to mine. It follows the channel of my own 2.4 gHz network when I switch my channel. You’ll see report after report with that exact sentiment. My experience with Roborock was exactly that. Spent a ton of money on a flagship model only to have it fail just outside warranty. Customer service was nonexistent. Not only will I never buy another Roborock product, but I’ll actively steer as many people as possible away from the brand. Your $300 robot is going to fail in the same time and same ways as your $1300 robot. Either go somewhere with an exceptional warranty (Costco) or just be prepared to replace the robot every so often. If you want to spend $300 or $1300 every time replacing it is up to you.”

“I have three robots (Ecovacs x1 omni, Roomba j5+, and a Roborock S6 Pure). When my Roborock had constant issues I looked into durability and longevity as the number 1 criteria and found that almost all comments from owners with high hours (maybe 800+) were either roborock S5s, old random pattern roombas, and i series roombas. I'd recommend an i7+ or j series Roomba (for obstacle avoidance and more reliable dock). They are well suited to hair and heavy use because of the dual rollers, bin design (reduces filter clogging/motor strain), bin sensor for auto empty and dirt detect, modular design (fast replacement parts), part availablity, and reports from owners. VacuumWars also found that cleaning performance of 2.5 inch pet sized hair on carpet was 100%, unlike many modern flagship models. My j5+ was been flawless for 270 hours so far. The only issues I have seen online relate to cleaning of bin sensors and charging contacts. Hopefully this helps”

“Hi! I went with the Roborock Qrevo Slim! I really like it for the most part. I fits very well under furniture, and mops well. Do I use the mopping feature as much as I should though? No. The vacuuming part works well, but my dog’s hair does clog it often. I feel like if we didn’t have so much dog hair It would be a perfect product. But truly does help tremendously with keeping the floors clean.”

“We replaced our super old Roomba earlier this year, and I was tempted to get one of the very fancy, highly recommended Roborocks, but ended up getting a Eufy on sale for $50. Zero regrets. It does great on all the fine dust and hair from our two large dogs, replacement parts are cheap and easy to find, and it’s incredibly quiet. No app or really any smart features - has a remote, but mostly just tap it on. I don’t see myself ever paying anything in the Roborock range with how well this does”

“Roborock. But be careful if the automatic mop bases. If they get clogged they can overflow. Damaged our wood floor because the leak went undetected for a while. I was following the filter maintenance but clogs happen. I don’t think it’s worth it. But the vacuums are great. Or onboard mop water. Just less convenient.”

“Have also owned roborocks since the S4. The only big downside is IF something does go wrong past their 1 year warranty you’re completely out of luck. Their in house repairs are prohibitively expensive (costs almost as much as a new vacuum). My dock broke for my S8 Pro Ultra at the 13 month mark and they advised me to buy a second hand one off eBay because they don’t repair docks or sell dock replacements. Their service in the US is absolutely terrible. I ended up getting a new dock off of eBay for way too much money and I’m hoping it lasts more than a year.”

“Second this, except I do have that periodic problem where it just bricks on my floor for a bit in a disconnected state. Buttons are unresponsive and app doesn’t connect. It eventually fixes itself, but once or twice I’ve had to re-dock it because of power when it bricked like that and didn’t come back online in time. One time I had to go through the whole reconnection process (QR code to connect direct and establish WiFi) Most research on it is pretty inconclusive, but a lot of suggestion that it is my router trying to bump it over to 5Ghz when it only supports 2.4. Unfortunately I can’t select which band by device on my router. Other than that, it performs extremely well for cleaning, object avoidance, self cleaning, etc”

“Canada here too! After some research, I decided on Roborock. From reading online these seems to be the drawbacks according to several people: non-existent customer service apparently, object avoidance -so if your sis very lazy to pickup things or got pets in the house. I was about to buy from Costco the Narwhal because of Costco return policy...but they cancelled the order so ended up getting The Roborock Qrevo Master because I wanted the mop functionality. If Vacuum only, Q5 max+ seems to be the popular choice.”

“After months of you tube videos and review websites I landed on the ecovacs deebot t30s we used to have the Roborock V7 Max but this one has more suction and the brush doesn’t get jammed with hair (there’s 3 long haired people plus 3 dogs that shed in the house) and we like that the vacuum empties itself asap when it’s full. And the mop is better than the robotic, which we sold at a great price, almost got our money back. Value on the T30s is incomparable. We were scared since some reviews said the vacuum kept breaking but thankfully ours has held strong it’s been 4 months of 4-5x a week vacuum + mop (3K sqft tile home)”

“Fun fact, mine is a S5 max too, although I did replace one wheel motor and I suspect the lidar is on its last legs. Thing is, those robots are simple compared to modern higher end robovacs with a bazillion extra sensors, actuators, rotating or vibrating mops, self emptying and self cleaning docks. If reliability is your main concern, I would shop for something with as few of such features as possible.”

“Only have had one, Roomba S9+, and after 3.5 years it has a wheel that is loose or something, and a scratched faceplate that prevents it from docking. I find it super frustrating that I can't see where it is until it ends a job, and that I can't get it to clean a specific area without creating a permanent new zone. I also have to be careful to pick everything up or it will get stuck after destroying my kids toys. I don't recommend it. I'm in the market for a new one and Roborock comes up a lot here. Dreame is supposed to be better for object avoiding but I also need good homeassistant integration and that seems to be lagging. So I'm at an impasse.”

“We have been using a Roborock Q5 Max+ for a few months now. It could use improvement. A Big design flaw I have noticed: If the rollers sucks something up (like a sock) and stops spinning, the robot will just continue to try to clean without the rollers spinning at all. It will attempt to clean your whole house like this, and actually clean nothing. Every few weeks the robot will get lost and the map will completely reset and require a full restore. Hopefully you have a map backup or you'll be starting over on the map. -Every few months the docking station will get plugged up with something. It can be really loud going over floor transitions or sometimes take multiple attempts to make it over. OVERALL: I like it a lot, couldn't imagine not having it, but this particular unit could use improvement.”

“I have the Qrevo 2 Pro. I upgraded from one of the early Xiaomi models, so you can imagine the difference... The anti-tangle brush really works. As for the rotating mop, while I only use water without chemical products, it struggled with certain stains. For example, if a bit of melon juice spilled and dried on the floor, it couldn't get it out (in normal mode, without deep cleaning). I was tempted by the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow, the model with the scrubbing roller, but since I want it to last for years, I felt the roller system was more fragile than the rotating mop setup. And by the way, it doesn't handle corners very well. There’s a YouTube channel ("Dad Approval" or something like that) that did a good review of it. Eight or ten years... I wish, but I don't think so. Also, if you plan to mop once a day using the maximum water setting, deep cleaning, and two passes, you’ll have to empty the dirty water tank and refill the clean water tank daily if your home is 100 square meters.”

“So your comment sent me down a rabbit hole. As I discovered, there are 3 main roborock models carried at Costco: max, plus, and ultra 2. Max reviews are terrible so ignore that one. When comparing the $500 plus and the $900 ultra 2, I found this thread. One of the comments did explicitly mention the ultra has the split brush that’s great with pets. So hopefully that helps. “We just got the Narwal Flow 2 four days ago and have been extremely impressed. It's not perfect, but compared to our outgoing Roborock S7 it is absolutely whisper quiet and we've been blown away (ie. disgusted) by how dirty the mop water has been and how much better our floors look. We have an open floor plan, but we still can't hear it from the next room over. The app isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be, but I do admit it isn't as polished as Roborock's. Considering it was $600 less than the Saros 20 Flow, I think the value per dollar is hard to overlook.”

If I run vac every day and sometimes 2x it does fine, but you miss one day because it errors out or it's a bad shedding day the bin fills quick and at that point it's clogged and done. It would be the best by far if I didn't have so much dog hair everywhere, but I haven't found one that really handles that much dust and hair. You'd need a huge bin or have it empty every few minutes with my house lol.”
