“I put one in last year, to replace a squeaky unit that came with the condo I purchased (that lasted ~ 20 years). The current one TBH (knock wood) has been solid. The wash tub I find surprisingly large and more than I need, and the dryer works well (except if I yank too hard I can pull the plastic handle off). I was after cheap (ish) and simple and this checked the boxes.”From thread: Opinions on the GE Washer/Dryer? ↗

“It's true, the lint is a pain. There's no way to get to some of the lint buildup. But I recently learned that you can use water to clean the lint compartment out, which is a game changer. You open up the water pump, then you get something that sprays like one of those pesticide pumps... Pull the lint filter out and you can hose down the lint area inside the machine. It all comes out where the water pump is”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“Have had the GE unit for about 6 months now. Very happy with it and dries great. I notice no difference in its ability to dry from a normal dryer.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“I’ve been keeping tabs on all in one washer dryers and this one seems to be the best rated one on the market to date. Not sure about long term reliability but if I were choosing between OPs three, I’d definitely pick the GE.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“GE has been on the market longest and has the best reviews in this category. for all other laundry matters theyre very bad, but this one product theyre the best. That may however be due to the competition just being so far behind. none of these units have amazing reviews. Also; GE has a heat pump, which is why its so big, so it actually dries way better than condenser units. Though the Samsung unit can be vented i believe, whereas none of the other brands can. Samsung has really bad reviews tho overall”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“My biggest concern with reading about the Samsung one was how hard it was to get service on them if they have to warranty out. I found so many reviews talking about that and the limbo hell Samsung puts you in since they rely on third party techs compared LG and GE using their own. I see a lot of reviews talking about how good drying is, but it seems like most of them are written at the beginning when people get the machine. I don’t care about drying performance as long as they aren’t vastly different between them. I care about the longevity of the drying system itself”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗

“I have the GE one, and I would say that I could do more laundry with it compared to conventional. I used to only do laundry on the weekends, but now I do it whenever. I can just throw in a load before I go to work and when I get home I have clean and dry laundry.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“I was gonna comment this as well, pleeeeease make sure to get the riser/pedestal to be able to service the drain pump filter!! Ours got clogged yesterday and trying to shop vac up gushing water that’s pouring straight to the ground was a nightmare. We’re having to add the pedestal after the fact now. But we love our machine, just keep up with the lint filter. I clean and vacuum it every time (I have a small hand vacuum in the laundry room) and get a round brush to clean the lint out that gets stuck around the filter. GE sells one that works great but it’s not like, GE exclusive lol. They also just changed the filter system to a double mesh panel instead of the foam filter, and you can order the replacement through GE if yours has the foam filter.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“Have the GE one, works well, but it does require more attention than most people are used to; run smaller loads, lint trap needs to be wiped clean after every use, if you don't the drying time takes too long and the clothes can get moldy smelling. Every ~50 cycles you have to thoroughly wash the lint trap, takes 5-10 mins, the machine will tell you, good time to also clean out the pump filter located at the front bottom, places a towel down and rinse out any gunk, takes 5 mins. Get a vacuum crevice attachment that can get inside the area the lint trap slides into to remove excess lint build up when drying performance starts to noticeably drop. Regular gas or electric dryers can be neglected and will still dry well for the most part, the GE all-in-one needs to be maintained or it'll dry clothes poorly.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“I bought my daughter a GE and it works really well. The drying time takes longer, but it’s great for her tiny apartment.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“I’ve had the GE combo for a few months and it’s been amazing. Normal loads take two hours. Clothes are always dry. Clean the filters! Only thing I dislike is it uses more electricity than a traditional gas dryer. Duh! But it’s saving on gas. Cost is about $0.40 per load in SoCal including taxes and fees about $0.38 /kwh.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗

“Microban is WONDERFUL! I love front loading washers, but every one of them will have mildew premanantly staining the seal unless you are completely religious about cleaning the washer regularly and keeping it dry. “We got a new GE profile dishwasher and its amazing. We got a new maytag and it had 7 warranty calls in 3 years and home depot aftermarket warranty gave us about 80% in giftcard back . “Might be a buy once cry once sort of thing. But to calm your nerves about the purchase, I think you’ll be fine with this. It won’t last you 20 years like a speed queen. I’d expect 5 and be happy when it lasts longer than that. I got 3 out of a Maytag before the transmission rusted out. I’ve had a GE front loader with auto dispensing detergent and it’s been great for over 5 years.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“Lots negative reviews but I really like my GE combo. Yes, I clean the filter every time. I even have a long thin shop vac attachment to clean inside the filter area every once in a while. But it’s less work over all since it has an automatic detergent dispenser and I don’t have to transfer wet clothes to the dryer which is my favorite feature. The run times aren’t crazy longer than separate machine especially since there is no down time switching loads. The people with long load times likely have dirty filters or overloaded the machine. I love being able put clothes and leave the house and come back to clean clothes. There is even a dry more option for those who don’t like the slight damp felling of the regular dry setting but I like that it’s very gentle on my clothes and sheets compared to traditional high heat dryers. Unlike other front loading washers it doesn’t get mildew since it drys in the same machine. They could definitely improve the filter design and make it easy to clean but I’ve been using mine for a year and it’s been working well for my family.”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? “We have owned it almost one year now and still love it. I am meticulous about cleaning it but I do have very little confidence that it will keep working well for many years. Knock on wood, but as of right now it still works great. We love the 2 and 1 concept and how it changes the process of doing laundry and we have never experienced a load taking more than the normal 2 hours. I hope the prices on these come down and they figure out a way to better manage the lint because I think the concept is great.”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? “I love my combo profile. I am meticulous obout cleaning the filter area, looking at it with a flashlight 24 inch hemostats with wet wipe, every load and the drain basket at the bottom once a month. I wipe the rubber seal every load. I take a pair of hemostats with a wet wipe and clean between the drum and seal. Even after this it still saves time for me. “I’ve had mine for 3 months. Overall I like it. You can throw in your clothes in the morning and when you come home from work theyre clean and dry. You do have to clean the lint filter each time but you’re supposed to do that with any dryer. The downside for me is that the unit is loud. You can’t start a new load of wash when the previous load is drying, however in reality that requires you to be home and paying close attention to take advantage of a separate washer and dryer. The thing where clothes feel wet but just need a shake to feel dry is difficult to understand but it’s true. sometimes a few things do need more time in the dryer but I think that’s because we overfill it.”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? “Exactly this! My husband was replacing parts on our brand new touch screen, fancy pants Maytag washer about 2 years after purchase. Coming home to a wet laundry room floor due to a busted wash basin was the final straw. The thing made it maybe 4 years, tops. I am now the proud owner of a brand new GE with knobs instead of screens, an agitator, and a flimsy feeling metal lid with no glass top. It looks like 1990 in my laundry room and I could not be happier. To the OP - do yourself a favor, avoid Maytag.”From thread: Should I get these Maytag washer and dryer ↗
“Washer with agitator cleans fine, dryer is a dryer. I prefer older models, less gadgets. “Appliance tech here. Electrolux have finicky conveyors for there soap dispensers I have replaced two conveyors within two months on two different models of Electrolux washers. They really don’t like hard water. They are also really picky about what kind of soap you use and require “clean washer” cycles to function properly. Also there control boards have been crapping out recently. Speed queens are the best they function great and are easy to repair if they do malfunction. LG is straight crap, they had a design flaw with there washer pumps and never acknowledged it, you will continue to have problems with any LG washer regardless if you replace the pump. Whirlpool GE are tied for the best bang for your buck. Overall Electrolux aren’t the worst but they aren’t in the running for the best either.”From thread: Electrolux Front Load Washers? ↗

“Hotpoint is a GE brand. Of the washers available at big box stores, we like the most basic GE and Hotpoint models the best. They have a better wash system (IMO) than other brands. They are still disposable, so plan on a 3-6 year life span, not the 15-20 years you used to get from any washer you bought pre-2010. Your anti-fancy stuff instincts served you well on that washer. Edit: I just saw they have been good for 7. You got the tail end of longer lasting ones. Keep them until they die, unless you are getting Speed Queen. The FTC decided since then that Durable Goods only have to last two years, so most modern washers last 2-6 years.”From thread: Thinking to buy Speed Queen Washer & Dryer? Think twice... ↗
“When we bought ours the sales guy suggested getting the SQ washer and then the most basic dryer in the store. It's a small shop and he also does some of the repairing if his tech is out. He wasn't impressed enough with the SQ dryers to recommend them at price premium they charge over a very basic Amana or GE. “I have a GE Front Load Washer/Condenser Dryer Combo, as my condo doesn't have a dryer vent. Don't fill it more than 2/3rds full, clean the lint out after every load (on the rubber ring, and whatever holes are within the rubber ring), and clean the filter every 1-2 months. The clothes may feel damp-ish when you take them out right away; but by the time you're done folding it, it will be dry as normal. Obviously, if they're still wet, then there's an issue with either your machine, or how you're operating. My full cycle takes 2hr8min, clothes are dry every time. Try putting in a small load (less than half full) and see what the results are. If its fine, then you're just filling it too full.”From thread: LG “All-In-One” Washer-Dryer ↗

“Just spent close to 2 months researching and talking to my local appliance store. We are a family of 4 with a 5th on the way, function is much more important to us than fancy options. Speed queen was the obvious choice but they are just so small. I'm not sure how people say they fit a king comforter in them, but no shot. We ultimately went with GE's commercial offering. 1/2 horsepower motor like the speed queen, no frills, larger than the speed queen, and a 5 year warranty like the speed queen. No they are not built to last as long as a speed queen but it was the next best option for us. Very happy with the set so far”From thread: What’s the best washer dryer set to buy ↗

The one thing to be aware of is the lint trap design flaw which is easily fixable with a little epoxy glue and some weathering strips from a hardware store. “We have the GE heat pump. It's great although we have had issues with lint sensors. Wife scrubbed the filter last time and seems to be fixed. It's the only reason I'm not sure about recommending one. Otherwise the thing is awesome. No vents. No gas lines. Runs on 110/120v, standard outlet. Don't have to move clothes over so no mildewy cloths or forgotten loads. Timer helps to run it overnight or when your electricity is cheap. Although it's so cheap to run. I put a meter on it and it was so low I don't even care to meter it anymore. Down side is it's 300+ lbs so near impossible for 1 person to move. Was very difficult for just me to get it over the drip pan, or move it to do flooring. Also not sure about long term use and also long term maintenance. Main one being possibly having to flush it by hand with a wand, basically a full service of inside at the dryer radiator and before that I do love the set it and forget it and the extra space of only one machine in the laundry room. But I won't put one in my rentals any time soon until they are more proven”From thread: Request: Best all-in-one washer dryer combo -- one unit does both ↗
“We got the GE one and replaced our washer with it while keeping the old dryer on the theory that it might not dry everything well. In the year we have had it do you know how many times we have used the old dryer? Once when we had a waterslide bounce house for my son's 6th birthday party. That was about volume, not that it couldn't handle towels. It does take some habit changes... When you take the clothes out they will feel slightly damp. You take them out and shake them as you put them into your basket. This only works well within about 30 minutes of the cycle ending. The alternative is the wrinkle option and forget about them as they tumble for 6 hours.”From thread: Request: Best all-in-one washer dryer combo -- one unit does both ↗
“We (house of 2 adults) have a GE profile ventless. No issues with it and love it. The wash and dry cycle is about 2.5 hrs total. Now one thing that caught us off guard is immediately after the cycle finishes the clothes felt damp but like 30 seconds later it’s dry. It’s almost like humidity or steam in the drum made us think it was still damp but that disappears. I will say though don’t over fill the machine.”From thread: Request: Best all-in-one washer dryer combo -- one unit does both ↗
“Owned the GE combo for almost 2 years now, the only annoyance we have had with it is...have to keep the lint filter and the area inside clean or your dry times and dry loads will fail. How often? Hard to tell but we do maybe 3 loads a week and I clean the trap area like once a month sometimes more if we do more linty stuff often (towels). I have a long reach brush and a Dyson attachment to get in there. Other than that the thing has been great! Throw clothes in there forget about it all day while we're out and have clean clothes when we get home. Or we do it at night before going to sleep and wake up to finished laundry without having to swap over. Once in a while a sock gets caught in the rubber gasket area of the door seal and it's not dry...no biggie I just hang dry that one sock.”From thread: Request: Best all-in-one washer dryer combo -- one unit does both ↗
“I have the GE one and it works well. It does take longer than 2 machines IF you move the clothes right when it is done washing otherwise, not a real problem. You need to clean the lint trap and the heat exchanger fins (not difficult). I would get it from Costco on sale with an extended warranty, given the relatively new technology. Also get the pedestal for it at time of purchase so that can be installed as well. It does weigh a ton, so tip the installers well.”From thread: Request: Best all-in-one washer dryer combo -- one unit does both ↗

People warned me that the cycle time was long, but I’m fine to trade time for energy efficiency and convenience of a single unit. “Look at the Maytag 586. It's about as close as you're going to get to an old-school washer today without paying Speed Queen money. And it has a full 5-year parts and labor warranty The GE 485 It's a good option too if you want to be around the $600 mark. Dual action, 4.5 cubic foot drum, selectable water level Don't put much thought into the dryer they have a pretty basic job and that is to tumble clothes and blow hot air. Any Whirlpool family dryer that has the lint trap on top is where where I highly recommend going. Whirlpool has made that design for over 50 years, it's changed very little in that time. “Only people who have problems with appliances talk about appliances. I have never required a single service call in the 10 years Ive lived by myself on any appliance, and as far as I can remember we have never required a service call on any appliance at my parents house either. We have a tech every two years come out and clean out coils, vents, filters, etc., and every time we moved we always just conveyed the appliances so granted it hasnt been the same set for 30 years. There are reasons to buy one brand over another, ie GE uses a mold-proof material for their gaskets on the front loaders. Huge reason to pick it over Samsung or LG if you cant leave the washer door open. The price you pay for a Speed Queen is not worth the longevity it might provide. “This is extremely strange timing- I am kind of an appliance geek. We had this exact unit in an AirBnB last week. It would not drain the tub, then eventually just refused to start the wash cycle. It would click once then the lights flashed. I was afraid that cleaners had “washed” the towels in it despite it not actually washing, pulled them out of the full tub, then straight to the dryer. Sooo we dried with beach towels all week 🤣 no more AirBnB’s for us. That’s it!”From thread: Opinions on the GE Washer/Dryer? ↗

“Got a GE for one of my tenants and the dryer stopped working. It uses a condensing system that is way too complicated and heated up the apartment. When it worked it took 2+ hours to dry the clothes. GE repair said they couldn't fix it since there was no service info on it. Just a bad idea in my estimation. I purchased it so I wouldn't have to bring in a 220V dryer connection. I found a small apartment dryer that works on 110/12A circuit and stacked it on top of the washer/dryer so the tenant just turns off the dryer in the settings. Waste of money. That was 4 years ago. Maybe they have improved.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗

“I have the 120vac ge combo and I am not a big fan due to the way it gets clogged with lint. It’s disgusting. Watch videos on the lint issue. Also can’t run loads over night because it smells damp and half the times it has to be run a second dry cycle. Still cheaper than running the other one we got even if we have to run it a second dry cycle. You just have to be careful with how much you load it. My wife constantly puts too much in. We also have the 240vac Samsung combo and I love it. Especially the door popping open when it is done. Can do loads when going to bed and it doesn’t smell damp in the morning. We usually just use this one for comforters, towels, dog blankets/beds, anything on the bigger side. We use to have to flip our comforters inside out in the ge one and do like three dry cycles. If it weren’t for the lint issue we wouldn’t have bought the Samsung one. We had some issues with the ge and had to call out a service tech but it was about three weeks before they could come out and I could get the Samsung delivered in two days. I have to say it is awesome having two of these all in ones with a family and a dog. Feels like we are always running one of them. Just wish they made a 240vac heat pump one in the US and it had a better lint trap system than the GE.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“have the ge one going on 2-ish years. wouldn't recommend it. the filter is poorly designed so lint can get past it and accumulate in the heat exchanger fins (which can cause issues). ours does a 'load sensing' thing where it takes 5 hours to dry (which 100% causes some clothes to shrink). does this on loads of all sizes, happens at random. we always clean the filter before every load (and the secondary filter) + regularly clean the drain pump filter.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗
“Not a long term appliance repairman (like a year), but I have too many new Samsungs to have control board issues and this GE combo requiring to completely take it apart to clean, since lint gets stuck inside. “TL;DR We recently bought the same GE washer from Costco as a set with the dryer but we are considering returning it due to the noise and vibration during the spin cycle and a fishy/chemical smell in/near the tub. [Warning: Long Post] Hi, interesting timing. We just bought this GE Washer 2 weeks ago from Costco and we have a few issues with it. First issue is the noise. Prior to purchase, I read a few comments online and what kept coming up was how noisy it is. Many people said it was really loud while others didn't mind it as much. I can attest to the noise. It's noisy during the wash cycle but, more so during the spin cycle. It's nowhere near as quiet as our previous Hydrowave GE washer. During the wash cycle, if you didn't know what to expect you would think some gears are seriously grinding. We're in a small condo, but, after a few washes, the noise during wash doesn't bother me much anymore. The second issue, that annoys me, however, is the vibration during the spin cycle. This thing really spins up and I can feel the vibration in the floor. Also, as a couple online comments mentioned, it can be come unbalanced; when this happens, the tub can bang against the "shell" of the washer. The vibration at the height of the spin cycle is worrying. The third issue is that the washer smells funky. When it was delivered, the installers said to run it through a full cycle without any clothes first. We did that but, afterwards, I swear I was smelling something between stinky fish and chemicals. The smell has dissipated some but not completely. Through Costco, we had a GE tech come out to look this thing over (shoutout to Dave!) and said that he didn't see what he could do but recommended using some washer cleaners. As for the spin cycle, he recommended not mixing heavier items like jeans, sweaters, etc. with smaller items like underwear, t-shirts, socks, etc. He said because something like, during the spin, all the heavier items get moved together and eventually unbalances the washer. He went on to say that all the motors, gears, etc. are attached to the tub/drum itself and, as a result, all of that stuff is supported only by the 4 rounds at each corner. If the washer gets unbalanced, then the whole lot will hit against the side of the washer. Lastly, the washer cannot be serviced by taking off a side panel like the older washers. It has to be put on its side because the whole dang bottom is open -there's no panel covering anything. The Hydrowave washer we had last about 10 years, if I remember correctly but i felt like the repair costs might not have made sense. We'll see how we get on with this washer (90 days to return, I think) but our choices are limited due to the size of the laundry area.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“So, this may be moot in your situation, but I present this: Spend an extra few hundred dollars now, buy a Speed Queen, use it for the next 15-20 years. Buy a GE or Whirlpool (Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air, Consul), and spend a couple hundred on service calls every other year for the 5 or 6 years it works. Buy a LG or Samsung for even cheaper, and put it on the curb in three years. That's a generalization, of course, but it's fairly accurate. GE, Kenmore, Maytag...twenty years ago these were premium American made brands. This is no longer the case.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗

“GE is Junk. I bought a top of the line matching pair front loaders with steam options etc. From the beginning the washer would struggle to balance the load at the final spin. Lots of people online complaints about this. I emailed GE as it was under warranty. GE said they were aware of this "characteristic" however there was nothing wrong and nothing to fix. They encouraged me to buy a newer model as they are constantly using customer feedback to improve their products. So they said he we know it's defective, too bad buy another one from us. In 3 years the washer bearing has started squeaking, it broke a damper, and still constantly has to re-balance the final spin no matter how light or heavy the load. The dryer is poorly built as well. No rollers to support the drum. It has one small bearing in the back and the lip at the front rides on a plastic or teflon strip. In 3 years it is wearing out and now the dryer sounds like there are shoes in it. Absolute junk. I worked at a place where we used Electrolux residential washers and dryers from Home Depot in a commercial setting. They ran non-stop from around 5:30 am to 9:30 PM 6 days a week and usually didnt start to need repairs until around the 6-7 year mark. For the record I live alone so they aren't seeing a big family worth of washing.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗
“Garbage. GE PROFILE PTW600BSR1Ws. at the Start the Default is hot water . Not sure about anyone else but hot is not what I use often . Even at max spin, it sometimes leaves them soaked, so I put it on Rinse & Spin as recommended by the manual. In the past I would just move the dial to spin. But the GE starts by adding water and then rinse and spin and still clothes are soaked. And I have it on Max Spin. Happens many times. A piece of crap. “I have been using washing machines for a very long time. It can honestly say that this General Electric top loading washing machine is absolutely the worst I have ever used. I pull out my clothes and they are dirtier than I started. These new machines do not use enough water they do more spinning and humming then actually washing your clothes. I would rather wash my clothes in an old Ringer washer at least I know they would be clean. Have been using my daughter's 1-year-old washing machine for one month now. I believe I'm going to have to go to a laundromat where there's a machine that might get my clothes clean. The whites are Gray and dingy. My collars have stains all over them from the machine. I take out clothes and I have to rewrence them because they have detergent all over them. The only thing I recommend for this machine is to go to the dump. Who ever invented it was an idiot. The idiot that invented it has never used a washing machine in their entire life. If this was my machine I would take it to a dump and get rid of it. My clothes would be cleaner if I took them to the creek and washed them on a rock. Totally disgusted user.”From thread: What are your opinions on GE washer? ↗

“I've had mine for 1.5 years now and I bought it new. I've been meticulous in cleaning the lint filter and washer drain pump and I balanced the machine prior to use. I recently had to have a repair tech from the extended warranty company come out since it's throwing a 353 error at the end of each load. The repair tech says the error is caused by lint buildup in places that are inaccessible to the end user. So the tech will have to tear the machine down to clean out the lint buildup. This seems to have also caused the blower/compressor inverter and the Moto Inverter Board to go bad. To add to the crap fest It's also squealing something fierce when in the spin cycle which means the bearings on the tub are also shot. The company is sending the parts out then I'll need to schedule a time for the repair tech to come back to fix and install the parts. Lucky for me I did buy an extended warranty which means all these repairs are covered even though I'm outside the GE 1 year warranty. Unfortunately the repair tech said the tear down and lint clean out is probably a thing that needs doing at least yearly based on my household use. I would not recommend the GE Washer/Dryer, when it works it's great, but the difficult maintenance and the short time from new to needing to replace parts makes it not worth the price.”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? Though it does take an adjustment period to figure out how to get laundry done for multiple adults in the home. HOWEVER ... maintaining the machine ... cleaning the filters, and other maintenance sometimes make me think it would be easier to go to the laundromat. “My G.E. Profile Washer/Dryer Combo allows lint to bypass the filter and deposits a lot of lint inside the filter housing area where the condenser ends up covered in lint. The filter housing area so so narrow that none of my vacuum cleaners attachments can access this area in order to remove as much of the lint and debris that is present after each and every wash/ dry cycle. I haven't found any good methods, other than to wait until the unit is completely dry and then vacuum! I had to create my own version of an extension wand using the long, cylindrical, cardboard, gift wrap centers, newspaper and tape in order to be able to reach all the way to the back of the housing area. Still I am unable to reach all the way to the back of that area where lint builds up! It also requires that the filter itself is taken apart after each wash/dry cycle to remove all the lint that clings to the foam filter because the lint bypasses filter itself! I clean it every single time I use it. The drum gasket is more than a challenge to clean! It is tacky, whuch causes everything to stick to the gasket and difficult to access the entire circumference. I have to spend a lot of time, bent over, at odd angles trying to remove lots of lint, hair and any other debris from this gasket. I spend about an hour each time I run a wash/dry cycle before I can run the unit again. I am 65 years old and these positions are quite a challenge! Whenever I clean out the drain pump filter, I am always mopping up lots of water which pours out when the pump filter housing is unscrewed. You are directed to place a short catch container for the water but the clearance is so low that anything short enough to fit under the door to the drain pump filter isn't large enough to catch the copious amounts of water! Also, they don't tell you when you purchase this unit that you will need to buy an additional, pricey, interface to install in the unit in order to use WiFi to access all the extras settings in G.E.'s online app! I was highly disappointed when I discovered this situation! I am quite frustrated with many of the aspects of my G.E. Profile Washer/Dryer Combo unit! “DON"T EVEN CONSIDER BUYING THIS: I have been reading all these reviews, and I have found my people! We purchased our Profile washer dryer combo in July 2023. At first we loved it, at first....However it is the biggest mistake in appliances we have ever purchased. We have had two service calls, for repairs, {thankfully we purchased the 5 year service warranty) and now I am keeping a journal for the everyday hassle of having this machine. I am hoping to eventually after they have exhausted fixing the lint build up, to get a refund or a credit. If not I will get in touch with the local news that get involved with consumers that are hitting a wall regarding these type of issues. I truly can't believe how much maintenance the homeowner has to do on this washer/dryer. I have to say I do the lint filter cleaning with every wash, and we also purchased the long lint brush to try and reach the areas where the build up can occur. The slot for that maintenance to clean the lint build is so small, and dark it is utterly ridiculous.”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? “This washer/dryer combo is the worst! After owning for 1.5 years, it started giving drying issues after about 10 months with regular lint vacuuming and cleaning. I basically have to shop vac out the entire inside near the coils every 2 weeks just to get the clothes to dry. Early on, after seeing the lint build up, modded the lint trap with stick sponges to help prevent lint from passing and that didn’t really do much. The machine can’t be opened easily to allow for a deep clean, so you are stuck trying to vacuum through the 1.5 inch lint trap opening… This machine would have been great if they simply vented it like a regular dryer. That way the lint wouldn’t build up inside basically choking the machine to a slow death. It most definitely was not worth $2,600 I paid for it. Loved the idea of convenience, but this design is deeply flawed. Note, I am mechanically inclined and tech savvy and would not recommend this machine to anyone. Maintenance far outweighs the convenience.”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? So so many conflicting reviews. ↗

“My GE dryer SUCKS and it's only 5 years old. The main board went out, the thing that read temperatures was faulty and would kick off thinking that it was overheating. “I just recently replaced a Maytag washer and a whirlpool dryer that were about 10 years old and finally given up… Shopping at my local big box home store I didn’t get much help with which washers and dryers are best as most of the sales people said “they don’t make them like they used to“ no matter what brand…They don’t carry speed queen and those are out of my price range as I’m a single person and don’t need a heavy duty expensive washer and dryer set… I ended up going with a basic LG set of top load washer (with agitator) and matching dryer… they were the only ones that had any hint of quality feel to them as far as the door/lid closing and general construction of the machine… The whirlpools I saw felt terribly cheap and flimsy, as well as the Amana and the GE models I looked at… I’ve had these about six months and they’ve been flawless so far and work very well so hopefully I can get a good few years… I’m not expecting them to last 20 years as I don’t think any of them do anymore… with energy star tax savings locally I spent just shy of $1000 for the set…”From thread: What’s the best washer dryer set to buy ↗
“Does the new vented Samsung wash combo have to be cleaned as meticulously as the ventless versions of the combo? I actually have the ventless LG. I’ve had it for one and a half years and so far I’ve had no problem with it. But I am meticulous about keeping the lint filters clean, including washing and scrubbing the removable filters fairly regularly. I initially bought the GE ventless, but it was a pain to keep that lint filter clean so I traded it for the LG. I’ve been thinking about getting a combo for my kids upstairs as they rarely remember to move the clothes. But my concern is that kids would struggle to remember to keep the filters as clean as I do. I’ve been thinking about getting them a Samsung vented combo, but I’m not seeing any reviews about what the upkeep is compared to the ventless. I also like that if the Samsung vented works well but we need to double the combo capacity, I can put the matching Samsung ventless combo in the washing machine’s space Granted with the vented dyers, not cleaning the dryer vent is a fire hazard. But I get the dryer vents in the house cleaned fairly regularly to prevent those issues. The thing about standard vented dryers is that the components are pretty simple, with inexpensive coils and belts being the items that need to be replaced most often. I just don’t know if the Samsung ventless shares those characteristics, including having a fairly simple venting system that doesn’t require you to regularly take extraordinary measures to get it really clean.”From thread: What is the best, all one washer dryer/combo unit to buy in 2025. ↗

“We loved our GE Profile - until we didn't. Two days after the manufacturer warranty date (one year), it stopped performing. You turn it on, it starts to sense the load then flashes that the cycle is complete. We've tried just running the dryer, same thing. We clean and wash the lint screen and even use a traditional lint cleaner to grab any other pieces (and it has removed more pieces of lint). We purchased an additional 3 years of warranty from Lowes so we called and submitted a claim. After over 2 months of waiting and calling and wondering, parts arriving damaged, etc., Lowes says it's too expensive to repair and gave us a "gift card" for the purchase price - NOT ENOUGH FOR A REPLACEMENT. Samsung is probably the worse, made in China, really flimsy construction to keep shipping down parts are hard to get, and expensive when you can find them. “The water temp thing is an easy thing to overcome. And a lot of people don’t even know it’s going on. Almost all brands of top load washers will “try” to dumb down the water temp the user has selected……in order to save energy. Most people start the machine and walk away and don’t realize it’s happening….until they notice a negative impact on the quality of the laundry being produced. At least GE has a little “hack” or “work around” for this condition. This hack ONLY works when you select a manual water level. If you select “precise fill” it will not work. Start the machine with the lid open…..when selecting HOT or WARM washes, leave the lid open during the entire wash fill period and the machine will fill with straight hot water from the water heater or a 50/50 split. If the lid is closed during the wash fill, the machine will fill with a “spritz” of the temp water you have selected …..followed by gobs and gobs of cold water. It’s does this on purpose, by design. And is NOT a GE thing……it’s an energy saving thing done by almost all manufactures. Most do not offer a little work around to defeat this. The other problem……the “random” draining…..I need you to re-explain and be very specific. The machine, by design…..Will drain all the water out and shut itself off……if it thinks the lid has been opened for 15 minutes…..which, once agitation starts…..pauses the cycle. You could have a lid switch problem, whereby…..after the wash agitation begins…..at some point the lid switch loses contact and “thinks” the lid has been opened. After 15 minutes in this condition…..the machine drains. If this is the case…..a lid switch replacement is a doable DIY, replacement . Edit: for people with any GE top loader that wants to pause a cycle for more than 15 minutes to soak a load of laundry……do so by pressing the pause button but do not open the lid. The machine can and will stay in this paused condition for up to 24 hours without draining the water. It’s a good option for soaking overnight.”From thread: Opinions on the GE Washer/Dryer? ↗
“I did a lot of reading about all three of these and Samsung seems to be the best so far. Now there's not a ton to compare it to but of the big three here the drying performance seems the best. And even people that don't generally like Samsung like this combo best. (The YouTube channel Ben's appliances for example doesn't like Samsung in general but likes this combo unit.) I think it also depends on how you like to do laundry. I like to throw a load in before bed once a day so I'm not opposed to it taking longer to wash and dry. Others like to have a laundry marathon and do 7 loads in one day and get it over with. I think they tend to hate a combo unit. Just depends on your needs.”From thread: Anyone have long term experience with these all in one washer dryers? ↗

PS. I had a Bosch 800 series dishwasher, it was one of the best reviewed and recommended model, expensive too. “Heat pump dryers only get to 40C, they don’t feel as hot as the old school dryers when they come out. We had some adjustment needed when switching to heat pump. We run the thing at a higher drying level, “cupboard dry” instead of “iron dry” for instance No idea about the GE model, but an all in one means more time is needed to do separate loads For example if washing and drying take 3h each, then the combo unit will take 6h per load. 4 loads will take 24h For the separate washer and dryer, 4 loads will take 15h because washing and drying can be done in parallel If you can have 2 combo units that would be faster at 12h, but you can’t stack them so the space usage will be considerably more”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? “As someone who has spent a lot of time studying this topic, I can provide some general feedback: many people love this product, along with SKUs from competitive products such as SS and LG because they solve a few key needs: 1) saves space in the laundry room, 2) they no longer have to transfer loads. However, dry performance and reliability issues are major issues with these machines for a few reasons - most dryer capacity is 20-30% higher than washers so there is more room to tumble clothes and therefore, the clothes are less likely to be wrinkled and dry faster. Further, while I'm not an engineer, I understand that these machines (Profiles) have a flaw in the filter design such that lint can bypass it leading to reliability issues over time. There have been proposed fixes on youtube, where the filter is modified but I'm unsure whether that addresses the issue. So, while some consumers love it (especially immediately after purchase), others are unhappy with the performance and reliability over time, especially given the very high price tag and claims around cycle time.”From thread: What is the actual deal with the GE Profile washer/dryer combo? The electronics are just a bad UI, slow etc. Also my washer would get unbalanced if you looked at it wrong and get stuck in an endless rinse loop. I went back to LG. “Just my two cents, I own both the GE and the Samsung all on one so I could do twice the laundry lol. The samesung is my favorite because the cloths come out dry like a traditional dryer. It might just be the fact the door pops open when done letting out additional moisture but hey, the drum size is larger and I notice when washing king size suffs... Oh and I love the self clean feature that cleans the coils. Samsung issues (or future issues): The display is Android and im curious what happens if its no longer supported. The display is alway on while washing (I might not have found how to turn it off) but I question the longevity of the display always one While I do like the GE a few issues ive experienced are: Motor started practically screaming through the spin cycle 2 years in, after replacing it its fine for now. Every now and then after a spin cycle it gets stuck in load sensing and never drys the clothes I know that the cloths are supposed to come out feeling slightly "Humid" until it hist the air, I just dont like it. 4)Keeping the coils clean requires you to go above and beyond to maintain your machine.”From thread: What is the best, all one washer dryer/combo unit to buy in 2025. ↗

“Honestly I’d skip Samsung for washers/dryers. Lots of tech but way too many reliability complaints and expensive repairs. GE is a bit better but Speed Queen is pretty much the gold standard for reliability and longevity (they’re built like tanks and last 15+ years). Downside is they’re more expensive and don’t have all the fancy features but you rarely hear about major breakdowns. If that’s out of budget, Whirlpool and Maytag are also solid choices. Easier to get parts and service, and they generally hold up well for 8-10 years if you stick to their basic models. Front loaders usually clean better and are gentler on clothes, but good top loaders like GE or Whirlpool are still a safe bet. This list has some decent options from other brands as well.”From thread: What is the best reliable washer/dryer brand? ↗
“I clean homes and wash my clients’ laundry for a living. Been at it for about 15 years now. LG’s have always impressed me the most for their cleaning performance. I also have clients with LG washers that are approaching 20 years old without any problems. I have seen one LG that bit the bullet at 11 years because the control panel gave up. A Speed Queen does an OK job, but I have not understood what all the fuss is about - and Consumer Reports supports that as well. GE washes fine. Maytags and Whirlpools do a fair cleaning, but I’ve seen plenty of them die by around 10 years. The only machines I would strongly discourage are Samsung. I have seen so many of my clients’ Samsung washers and dryers break, the washers also are bad at time management (keep taking far more time than initially shown on the screen), the dryers take forever, and the cleaning isn’t all that great.”From thread: What is the best Washer and Dryer now to consider for purchase? ↗
