Dreame

Brand reputation

What Reddit says about Dreame

Redditors tend to view Dreame as a feature-rich robot vacuum brand that offers excellent cleaning performance and value for money, but with some uncertainty around long-term reliability and after-sales support. It is particularly appealing to buyers who want powerful vacuuming and advanced mopping features without paying the highest premium prices. However, checking model-specific reviews and local warranty coverage is worthwhile before buying.

“If I can make a suggestion, as you are dealing with a ton of hair, I would recommend a Dreame or Xaomi robot vacuum, and upgrading them the compatible tricut brush. The hair puts a ton of strain on the robot vacuum motor, and the tricut brush literally cuts the hair as it spins so it can easily be sucked up. If you aren't prepared to get an expensive commercial grade robot vacuum, I would recommend getting two robot vacuums to ease the load and to provide backup in case one fails. If you had two Eufy L60 SES models for example, with each robot only being responsible for 1/2 the building each then there is a higher chance of both units surviving long term. I've seen multiple non commercial grade robot vacuums in salons, rental storage facilities, and offices with each robot in charge of a limited amount of space.”

“Please correct me if I am wrong, but this actually looks like Berber carpet, not high-pile. Think of high-pile like a shag rug. It's long and can get tangled or damaged by beater bars and the long shag pieces can stifle the suction of vacuums. Berber is thick and dense but this kind of rug would be good with any mid range robot. We love our Dreame L40 ultra!”

“I bought the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete on Prime day and it cleans really well. Had a significant issue getting it to work the first 3 days because it wouldn’t perform a firmware update, but once we got past that it’s been excellent. It’s my first robot vacuum though, so I have nothing to really compare it to in terms of quality.”

We have 2 cats and a child and we use the dreame x50, after a mopping session everything looks clean no swipes or nothing. “I bought a L10S Ultra last month for my wife. Works infinitely better than the old Roomba with just a bump sensor. I flashed Valetudo on it because IoT vendors are incompetent when it comes to security and I don't need any IoT device talking to the internet. I have mostly hard floor with a few area rugs. It vacuums and mops well, doesn't get stuck on dumb shit like the old one, and is significantly quieter and well. I have mine hooked into home assistant so I can automate cleaning when we're not home in addition to running on schedule. I don't have anything negative to say about it after about 45 days of ownership”

“Mova V50 for homes that are primarily carpet. Mova z60 for mostly hard floors. Dreame also makes great robots such as the L40. The l40 ultra goes on sale for around $300-400 frequently, it was one of the flagship robots back in 2024 and it still cleans as well as the flagships today. The Mova p10 pro ultra is also a great option and comes in around $300-400 as well and is identical to the L40. The l20 and l10 from Dreame are really old at this point and aren't great options.”

“I noticed something similar with a tripod stand at home and my MOVA V50 Ultra (a souped-up Dreame X50)! It would hump the stands on day one, either hump or correctly avoid the stands (50/50 chance) on day two, and it perfectly navigated around the legs and followed the edges well on day three. This tripod stand is often moved around so I was pleasantly surprised when it was still able to recognize it was the tripod stand and deal with it appropriately (yet it still doesn't register as an obstacle as a base in the app).”

I've been chatting with somebody that works on these robots and says the pads are going to be the lower maintenance of the two.. and I am not unhappy with my current model freo z ultra.. not real thrilled with the vacuuming of it I preferred dreamies a little bit more and eufy e25 was better at vacuuming.. and if you have lvp which I do which is expensive you need it to have less water on the floor and it can't be real hot or you can ruin your floors and I paid a lot of money for my floors!”

“Our Narwal is fantastic in not getting any hairs stuck in its brush. But as a general point. Our experience is that the type of roller material is not as important regatding hair tangles. Silicon mihht be easier to get stuck hair off than one with bristles but what you really need are brushes that either have their own cutters fixed to the robot (Dreame seems to use such solutions) or bruahes that are only fixed on one side so that the robot can push the hair to the open side and suck it up from there”

“Best model for 2025 release in the US is probably Dreame’s X50 Ultra as it seems to best meet all your needs. Currently, I do not think any current models will sufficiently meet your requirements as the current models have some drawback in the requirement you have mentioned. Dreame X/L40 Ultra compared to X50 Compared to the X50 Ultra: Double brush system has worked much better on carpets than with the TriCut brush. Both approaches perform just as well on hard floors. Dreame’s X50 Ultra’s double brush performs better on carpet. For some reason, the bristle brushes on all the older models (rubber and bristle combo brush and the TriCut brush) liked to eat some of the fiber on my low pile densely packed carpet. I’m not sure if this is universally applicable to all carpets as I haven’t seen other people report this issue. However the second bristle and rubber combo brush on the X50 Ultra did not do any of that on my carpet. It can’t clean its own filter like the X50 and the X50’s AceClean mop cleaning system with water jets are much better at self cleaning the washboard than the X40 Ultra’s washboard with wipers. The X40 washboard also has some difficult to clean areas and little nooks and crannies that I didn’t really like cleaning If you have furniture with low clearance (under 10cm): the X40 cannot make it under there whereas the x50’s retracting lidar can. If you have high thresholds above 24mm, you’d appreciate the Dreame’s new threshold climbing legs No ability to compress the fur in the dust box while it is vacuuming to maximize the use of the dustbin volume. Roborock’s obstacle avoidance isn’t as good as dreame.”

“Narwal Freo Z Ultra is the best robot mop but an ok vacuum. It does not have an internal water tank so this means it’ll have to frequently go back to the station to rewet its mops. This shouldn’t be a problem if your house isn’t very big. If it is, consider the other two models with an internal water tank. I’ve also heard mixed reviews about NarWal’s customer service. As for the app, I’m not so sure but I think it’s on par with the other brands (please correct me if I’m wrong). As the robot’s home is behind furniture, I’d recommend a model that has a self cleaning base station. Narwal doesn’t have this but I believe the next two models do. Dreame’s L/X40 has similar computer vision smarts and can extend and swing its extended mop under areas like the fridge where stains tend to accumulate with better vacuuming performance than the Freo Z. There’s currently no other model in the international market that can do this (NarWal’s 001 Max is still only available in mainland China). I’ve heard mixed reactions when it comes to its international customer service. The app is feature rich but means the UI will be more complicated. The QRevo Curv/Edge can also be considered but won’t have as amazing computer vision smarts as the previous two models. However, I heard the app has the best UI and that customer service can be mixed.”

“I've got Dreame L40 Ultra for a couple of months already and I'm blown away. It has a rather bulky main station but hey - it's mopping up nicely, you add clean water and forget about it for some time. Same with dust - it auto empties into a bigger bag. Plus, the app has lots of settings with smth that was important for me - setting a different levels of moisture used for mopping for different rooms - having wooden floors in some of the rooms I'd rather avoid having floors too wet so I can set up a routine where everything is cleaned the way I want it.”

“Some observations: A number of robots advertise a headlight of sorts for night cleaning. I would recommend one of these. Other models advertise that they don't need visible light, but I would be skeptical. Obstacle avoidance tends to be a feature where you get what you pay for. Dreame, Narwal, and Eufy seem to have better obstacle avoidance than other brands, though I would still check reviews to be sure. You're almost certainly going to do better with a newer model for longevity than your Roomba. Until last year, iRobot robots were known for poor navigation and poor efficency due to their lack of LIDAR. Any newer robot with some form of LIDAR will almost certainly do better. That said, 4000 square feet is huge. Look for the biggest battery you can find. Averages these days are around 5000 milli-amp-hours (mAh), which for you should be considered a lower bound. Also, you might look at Ecovacs models with their PowerBoost feature; it fast recharges the battery during routine stops for mop washing and the like, which both extends the cleaning time for the first cleaning and reduces the downtime for the inevitable recharge. Pretty much all robots these days have a quiet mode of some kind. Mops have come a long way since your Braava. Many have single flat pads on the rear half of the robot; these are not very good. An exception is Roborock's flat pads that vibrate. Generally, you'll want to stick with either two round-ish spinning pads on the back, or a roller-style mop. (I include robots like the Narwal Flow in this category, with more of a flat track than a round roller.) Each kind has advantages and disadvantages, so you'll want to look closely to see what you prefer. Nearly all self-empty stations will let you ignore the dustbin for at least a month at a time. I've replaced the bag in my Eufy S1 Pro three times since I bought it a year and three months ago. Cleaning the filter and dustbin on the robot is still important, though, so you'll want to check how often the vendor recommends doing that. Note that bagless vacuums are the norm today, but bagless self-empty stations for robots have drawbacks that you should be aware of; since the bag acts as a filter, bagless models need regular filter maintenance on the dock as well as the robot. You mention water hook-ups. A few models from Roborock, Dreame, Eufy, Narwal, and SwitchBot support direct water lines for both filling and emptying. In some cases, the vendor makes special models that support the lines; in others, the vendor sells a water hook-up kit. I would be skeptical of third-party kits, but kits designed by the vendor for the vendor's robots should be fine. Everyone seems to be recommending the robot they like/have. That's fine, but don't let it confuse or overwhelm you. In particular, I wouldn't buy a robot that hasn't been on the market for at least a few months, and that has few to no independent reviews. Most robots have problems when first released, which the influencers and paid reviews won't tell you about.”

“I recently got a Dreame X40 Ultra on sale from Amazon for about $500 (it was $1900 when it first came out in mid-2024) and am so far thrilled with it. It’s a meticulous and smart robot that seems to learn quickly and detects everything well thus far. I was actually surprised at how good my floors looked after the first global cleaning, and it picked up so much! While it self empties into its base, I had the opportunity to see its internal bin twice during the cleaning because once it sucked up a screw and washer that I needed to remove, and another time it got string caught many times around its roller, and I was shocked at how much dust and lint and hair was in the bin, pretty tightly packed. I emptied it into the trash just to save it from having to do so at the base. I believe our house is about 3500 sf, and until very recently we had a cat, so I expected the first time to be a lot. I’ve now set it to vacuum and mop the kitchen and den (most used areas) daily in the early morning, and I’ll figure out how often to do the rest of the house over the coming days. Because it does handle itself so well, I trust it to start working before I get up. I also WFH so will be able to see how it’s doing and make any necessary adjustments as needed. I bought the tri-cut roller ($19) to replace the roller it comes with, and I recommend that for anyone with pets or long hair because it cuts hair into small pieces. Last I checked, Amazon also had the L50 Ultra on sale for $850. I had not had a robot vacuum/mop in years and the last one I had was really crappy, so I didn’t want to pay that much if there was a risk of it being crappy or only good for a couple of months (they are almost all made in China; I think of it like playing Russian roulette), but that one currently has top rating on Vacuum Wars, if cost is no issue. But the X40 has everything I wanted, good obstacle detection, swing out brush and mop to get edges and corners, self emptying and cleaning, with hot water. It is also my understanding that the X series is a bit better made and has better AI and sensors than L series, so hopefully that means more durability/longevity. They are also so customizable! Like, you can tell it to use extra or intense suction on carpets, or to go over areas more than once, or to concentrate more on particular areas, etc. it will take some time to customize it perfectly for my home, but I find it to be really fun and interesting to change the settings and see how it responds. X40 Ultra also has headlight for dark, Lidar/2 lasers plus a camera, optional remote control, takes pictures, etc. Lots of features.”

“We just got the dreame aqua10 roller So far: It has a pet mode (we haven't tested yet) that is supposed to avoid pets as well, but alas, our dog avoids the vacuum already It avoids humans - worked It detects risky obstacles - so far it hasnt gotten stuck yet and has correctly put locations where cables are on the map, once I forgot to put shoes on top of the stairs and it detected and pinned those on the map too, it avoided running them over. It also detects when it goes from hard floor to rugs and when it goes under a tight lower space It did cover considerable floor space without charging first time we ran it was 57m² at normal speed + mopping, we ran it a second time in sequence but it then did 42m² and had to charge. During its normal process it will go between the dock and last place cleaned to empty and rinse. It has various levels of sucking you can set it to and you can chose to mop + vacuum, only mop, only vacuum, and choose rooms or specific spots. It has its own light so even with lights off or under the broader corner couch it will just keep running without issues. We did worry bc it did a test run and tried to go up our (cross shaped) table legs but once it had done all mapping, it perfectly avoided it. With more complex tighter spaces it will attempt to go clean as closely as possible, at various attempts but didnt get stuck. It also did a software update immediately once we connected it after unboxing, I assume it will also keep its detection AI updated. We read reviews that the roller dock did leak in some rare instances, but another review mentioned a newer run doesn't have the same issue, so we bit the bullet and ours is still leak proof at least. You have to refill and empty the water reservoirs after each use as recommended, but it does save a lot of effort. Only downsides so far: expensive refills - but it's like once 6 months roughly according to the manual... Well see, fiancee thinks it is worth it Spot cleaning by hand for sticky spots still works best, and you might want to do manual cleaning of tight corners and spots it can't come every once in a while. But it def saves in upkeep, I don't think other vacs do it better probs When it vacuums rugs it vacuums a bit louder It is reaaallly loud when it vacuums the robot reservoir in the docking station.”

I'd also consider MOVA's V50 Ultra which is better suited for pet households since there's the ability for the robot to choose between regular cleaning solution and a pet-odor neutralization solution! I consider the V50 Ultra to be an upgrade over the X50 Ultra. “Just as an fyi for other buyers, my experience: this robot does a great job cleaning, when it cleans. It is 50/50 whether it gets stuck on a threshold ramp, and is 50/50 whether it decides it can extend legs and get over a 1cm threshold (which is designed up to 8, 4+4cm). Support has been useless re. Fixes and were looking to refund. Pathing is shocking and will spend a lot of time cleaning rooms in the most bizarre way. Lastly, when going to a new room it vacuums the entire way wasting charge (frustrating when it needs to charge twice to clean our house on minimum settings). With a dog it has jammed up the vacuum hole with dog fur even though running daily (seems to be a design issue). Overall I would NOT purchase again, even though my mum has one as well and it works perfectly (more open plan without thresholds). When it cleans though, it does a good job, but can just get stuck or not clean rooms.”

“The Dreame subreddit is full of posts that talk about how bad the robots are at mapping and navigating and how terrible their support is. All of those posts have comments from people talking about how wonderful their robots are. I've written various posts and comments about the issues with my flagship Dreame x50 Ultra and my issues are completely dismissed as being my fault entirely. So while on one hand the physical hardware seems great their software is absolute ass and I can't recommend a Dreame even if it checks all your boxes hardware wise. I will also not recommend a Shark because even though my stupid shark robots have been 100% reliable their support makes you actually call them, no email or chat. They also don't support matter, have any sort of API, and like to break shit without warning and are reluctant to acknowledge what they broke if at all.”

I’ve had two Dreame L20 ultra units in the last 12 months and both had the same issue of not emptying the collection box so it was remaining jammed full of dog hair. The second unit is now back with Dreame who have promised to replace it with a new unit (their customer support in the UK is seriously lacking. I had to fight every step of the way and it took over 3 weeks just to get a returns number from them. I personally found the rest of the unit good, but would never buy another Dreame machine because of their lack of customer support) Literally ordered the new Eufy S1 pro which has arrived today but I’ve not had time to unpack it yet. “The Roborock Curv, Dreame vacuums with the tri cut brush as the other person mentioned, and Narwarl Freo Z Ultra are probably the ones you want. Curv and Freo Z have brushes that are designed to pick up the hair and then the hair travels along the brush until it falls of the brush and is vacuumed up. The Dreame one cuts the brush, however the brush design results in weaker debris pick up.”

On day three, it approached the chair differently, and on day four, it managed to get around the chair entirely. According to Dreame, this was an example of the AI in action, learning, rather than mere navigation. The ability to navigate a space over and over again is a good way to test the AI. Is it subjective? Sure. But that's my entire point- there's room for subjectivity in how we review these bots, not just objectivity.”

“I have a couple of the older or really low end ones and wouldn't really recommend as someone's first vacuum robot because they're all missing some feature or built to a price point with major compromises. Its not worth buying something you can't just trust to do the job and ultimately won't use. I'd put all the current sub $250 robots in this category. There are several Dreame/Mova models that use the Tricut brush (add on) and that's great for a pet household and may push you to the lowest really good price point. Other newer technology by other brands to avoid hair wrap around the main rollers - like having multiple rollers work well too. Modern equivalent of what I have with daily and sometimes multiple route a day use. Eufy 11S - low price bounce navigation robot. I have a 7 year old model and parts are really cheap to keep it operating but it doesn't clean all that well. Using in a low traffic area and still requires daily emptying. Dreame D20 Air Plus - current sub $200 robot. Good vacuum and self emptying into large bag. Obstacle avoidance okay but not great. Not a passable mop. Vacuum very susceptible for hair wrap though, and for that reason hasn't been great in our pet household. Good, but still have to interact with it routinely to clear the roller. This is a daily interaction for me currently as well. Mova P10 Pro Ultra - $350 range robot. Tricut brush available in generic brand for another $20. This is the lowest price point for something that just works without interaction in my opinion. Base station vacuum bag is relatively small for a pet owner with a lot of carpet, but the robot will go without interaction for a week or more with no interaction. Mopping works well. Obstacle avoidance great. I do really like the Dreame/Mova integration with Home Assistant and ultimately that's probably what will keep me with their robots for any future purchases. Its been nice to automate sweeping the litter box area when cats clear out for instance.”

“Thank you. I’ve been stuck between the MOVA Z60 Ultra Roller, NARWAL Flow, and the DREAME Aqua10 Ultra for the longest time and have a 900sqm home. This excel made me the realize the NARWAL Flow is the obvious choice. Although I saw the Roborock Curv 2 Flow recently launched in Singapore and I’m curious to see how that compares, tho that means I’d have to wait for God knows how long cuz idk when they’re gonna release it in the EU.”

“This might be a dumb question, but why is Dreame the #1 pick when Ecovacs X11 is pretty much superior in every single category except for carpet cleaning and "best for pets"? Is it because of the price?”

“Thank you for this painting; The ecovacs seems to be the best, it would even surpass Dreame Aqua roller…”

“To be honest every brand seems to suck in different ways or at different times, and it's somewhat luck of the draw on getting a good unit and not having weird issues with navigating or the apps. For pet hair the roborock duodivide or Dreame/mova hyperstream brushes seem to be the best. Designed to funnel hair wraps to the ends or middle.”

“It’s an OK vacuum, but my mop pads stopped getting wet after a year of using them, despite priming the pipes inside both the dock and on the vacuum. Good obstacle avoidance and suction.”

“I feel mid range (no funky new tech) with grounded features are the best. It’s a good value proposition and I won’t be too mad if it misses here and there. About reviews - it can get tricky. Remember researching around Roborock, Dreame, Eufy, a year or so ago. Kinda landed on the Dreame L10s ultra but took a chance on the Xiaomi X20 Max as I didn’t want a camera. Worked out really well. I did end up buying the Dreame for my mum, and she absolutely hates the thing haha. Different people different strokes.”
