“I’ll be that guy: Buy a Dell and get the service plan. Building PCs is a hobby. Regardless of anything you hear from anyone here, you will not save any money or time or resources trying to build it yourself. It CAN be done, but not by you. This is not meant to be mean. The people here who brag about building PCs out of gossamer and moonbeams and getting 145 FPS on Apex have the expertise, tools, and sources to get those parts and make that happen. And when that machine inevitably fails, THEY know how to figure out what part failed and THEY know how to find another one. YOU do not. If you did, you wouldn’t be here. You can learn, but not from a single Reddit thread. Just buy your son a gaming PC, and bake the cost of a good service plan into your budget. “Prebuilt” isn’t a bad word.”

“I bought the Alienware Aurora ACT1250 from microcenterwith RTX5080 and Intel Core Ultra 9 285K (3.2GHz) Processor for 2830, I got it just last week but I'm extremely happy with it so far, runs very smoothly, very quiet, and I can play RDR2 on max settings without it heating up”

“I would avoid buying something like an HP or Dell from Best Buy at all costs.”

“Prebuilts done by like Lenovo or Alienware? Yeah, utter dogshit most of the time, with Alienware being all the time. Prebuilts done by different shops and sold as a bundle of all the stuff inside? See reviews of that specific shop. My build is actually a thing of the sorts I found at a masive discount and knew the guys had a good reputation with both their prebuilts and their return policies and warranties. 6 months later no problems.”

“No. They can be better. They can be worse. Don’t buy Alienware. Check prices compared to buying parts individually.”

“Definitely not Alienware or Dell. I ran it through my estimator and they always overcharge by 500-1000+”
